Spending an evening with them\, I came to realize that they enjoy cracking jokes just as much as playing music. By the second song\, Jesse Davis – in a deadpan delivery\, said\, “ We’re really excited to sing to you a song about a dog that drowns” (Irish Rover). TopHouse formed in 2015 when Davis on guitar and mandolin formed a Celtic Folk duo with Will Cook on violin. Their first gigs were playing in parking garages during Missoula\, Montana’s cold winters because they liked the reverb and sound. She had a tour and a listening party at her Howard’s Bar in September.\n\n \nCaroline Smith at First Avenue (Sep 27\, 2013)\n\nWe’ve seen Caroline Smith a few times\, but my personal favorite was in Sep 2013: “Then\, earlier in June 2013 we had a preview of her R&B and soul music from Half About Being A Woman. As expected\, the majority of her set is from the new record\, Half About Being A Woman\, including the intro song\, “Magazine”\, “All That I Know Is (I’m Your Baby)” and the title track. The new songs sounded great\, particularly with the two dedicated backup singers who added a retro soul sound. I think if you like old 60s soul with some rhythm and blues\, you’re going to find a lot to love on Half About Being A Woman (out October 8th on United Interests). Of course\, the longing and sadness could have something to do with her severe seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Billie Marten has been writing music since she was 12\, becoming famous on YouTube. At 15\, she released her first EP\, and a second EP a year later.
