He coolly set up the background for Queen of Spades\, a very funky song that was featured in a key scene on the Netflix show Ransom Canyon. Apollo was particularly good at the funk sound on the guitar\, and showed that he is quite a skilled guitarist through several solos in the show. That guitar combined with the backing keyboards in several songs made a good contrasting sound. All the music created for Metalocalypse was created by Brendon Small\, and they released his music in the debut album The Dethalbum (as Dethklok) in 2007. Now in 2023\, they have a fourth album\, Dethalbum IV. If you’re wondering why it took so long for the new album (an 11 year absent since Dethalbum III in 2012)\, it’s because it has partially due to the copyright ownership of the Dethklok name by Adult Swim. Courtney and band worked hard to get the still-filling room into his corner and pulled it off with songs like his initial single\, ‘Glitter & Gold’ and even pulled a move out of the Tantrums playbook during hit\, ‘Fire’ (heard in the Bradley Cooper chef movie\, Burnt as well) by having everyone huddle low on the ground\, before exploding up for the song’s chorus. Even though their physical presence couldn’t be anymore different\, their voices blend so nicely you can feel the musical kinship. McMurtry is one of those musicians that can entertain a crowd with just an acoustic guitar\, but he was joined on stage with a few of his friends: Cornbread on bass\, Daren Hess on drums and Tim Holt on guitar and accordion. For those not familiar with the Heat\, the trio is built around Jim “Horton” Heath. His music is reflected in his love for good old fashion Country & Western and Honky Tonk music. Currently the band features only two original members\, Havok and drummer Adam Carson. The band broke mainstream success with Sing The Sorrow in 2003\, but the truth is that they already had millions of fans leading up to their breakout album. Of course\, like most bands that started very young\, Davey Havok’s influences changed over time… particularly moving away from their hardcore punk roots to something more like “Alt Press” type sound.
