SUMMARY:Minnesota State Fair (Aug 27-Sep 7\, 2026)
DESCRIPTION:Explore More\n■ Minnesota State FairThe Minnesota State Fair is the state fair of the U.S. state of Minnesota. Also known by its slogan\, “The Great Minnesota Get-Together”\, it is the largest state fair in the United States by average daily attendance and the second-largest state fair in the United States by total attendance\, trailing only the State Fair of Texas\, which generally runs twice as long as the Minnesota State Fair.\n\n\n\n\n\nAugust 27\, 2026-September 7\, 2026\nMinnesota State Fair\nat Minnesota State Fairgrounds\nmnstatefair.org\n\nThe great Minnesota Get-Together\, Minnesota State Fair was voted #1 best fair in the country two years in a row by USA Today (2025-2026) (I wonder where Donald Trump’s poorly attended Great American State Fair rank). There’s no doubt about it\, the annual Minnesota State Fair is the largest in the country\, and it’s all good times with music and entertainment.\n\n \n\n\nWe went in Oct 2025 and wrote\, ““I’ve never sang in front of pork chops smoke before\,” Ber said on her first set at the MPR stage\, at the great get-together\, the Minnesota State Fair\, on a hot Sunday. Unlike her previous appearances\, such as her first show at First Avenue\, with Sigrid\, in Oct 2022\, this Minnesota State Fair show is all acoustic. Not great\, as the acoustic music\, mostly handled by Brian\, does not drown out all the excitement of the spin-the-wheel next door. We previously mentioned that Ber (originally from Minnesota) moved to London and was ‘discovered’ by Zane Lowe and Travis Mills of Beats 1 and BBC Radio One. When we saw her in 2022\, we mentioned that she was working on her debut EP. That EP was called And I’m Still Thinking About That\, and since then\, she’s released Halfway and Room For You (her latest)… We also got the secret story behind “Your Internet Sucks”\, which I’ve always thought was about a British boy that she dated for a year. She tells us one time she was making homemade potato gnocchi for his visit. She said it would take a good three hours to get it ready\, and he showed up after driving an hour. He wanted to rest\, so she left him alone for a few hours. When she finally came to get him\, the whole time he was playing Fortnite on his iPad. Anyway\, the song wishes that he has all the inconvenience of life… including the curse of bad internet. That’s cold\, I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. She ended her set with “Whatever Forever”\, with Eric on tambourine. Of course\, this was the great Minnesota State Fair\, one of the largest\, if not the largest?\, in the country\, and draws in thousands of Minnesotans. There are plenty of entertainment\, fun for the whole family!”\nSocial Share\n Share on Add Us (Opens in new window)\n Add Us\n \n Share on Instagram (Opens in new window)\n Instagram\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n More\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window)\n Mastodon\n \n Share on Telegram (Opens in new window)\n Telegram\n \n Share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window)\n Nextdoor\n Like this:Like Loading…

DESCRIPTION:Creed at Mystic Lake Amphitheater\, Shakopee (July 16\, 2026)\n\n\nJuly 16\, 2026 Thursday\n Creed\nwith Bush and Tim Montanaat Mystic Lake Amphitheater\nmysticlakeamp.com\n\nThe special 93X Half-Assed Morning Show Summer Bash with headliner Creed\, will take place July 16\, 2026\, at the Mystic Lake Amphitheater\, in Shakopee.\n\n\n CREED \n\n\nWe saw Creed in Nov 2024 and wrote\, “Celebrating now thirty years as a band\, Florida rockers Creed are truly living a second life\, having reuniting again after being apart for the previous decade doing solo projects\, and still managing to fill arenas even without a new record to support. The band’s hit song “Higher” even helped propel NBC reality singing show “The Voice” contestant Huntley to a win\, on the previous season. The headlining set began with one of their heaviest songs\, 2001’s “Bullets” and the pyro was on full display right away on the song’s choruses\, though safely located in plumes behind the band. There were three riser platforms along the front of the stage for singer Scott Stapp\, guitarist Mark Tremonti\, and bassist Brian Marshall\, while drummer Scott Phillips mostly kept intently focused to his beats atop the back drum platform.”\n\nBush and Tim Montana to open.\n\nSocial Share\n Share on Add Us (Opens in new window)\n Add Us\n \n Share on Instagram (Opens in new window)\n Instagram\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n More\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window)\n Mastodon\n \n Share on Telegram (Opens in new window)\n Telegram\n \n Share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window)\n Nextdoor\n Like this:Like Loading…

DESCRIPTION:Selby Ave Jazz Fest (Sep 12\, 2026)\n\n\nSeptember 12\, 2026 SaturdaySeptember 13\, 2026 Sunday Selby Ave. Jazz Fest\nat Selby Avenue\nselbyavejazzfest.org\n\nThe annual Selby Ave. Jazz Fest is back on the weekend of September 12 and 13.\n\n\n Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles \n\n\nWe attended Selby Ave last year and wrote\, “The Selby Avenue Jazz Fest is in the heart of St. Paul\, specifically\, the Rondo neighborhood. It was founded in 2002 as a response to the one-year anniversary of 9/11. Co-founder\, Michael Wright\, felt a need to celebrate the good things going on in the world and in the heart of St. Paul\, and he felt\, “Nothing gets people together like a good old-fashioned block party.” The inaugural Jazz Fest had 600 people. There were quite a few more on Saturday. The original intent of getting people together was evident on arrival for it seemed everybody knew everybody. I have never seen more hugs shared at a music festival and I’ve been to a few EDM concerts. The colorful clothing added to the flair to the festivities. And as a side note\, I was surprised to see so many tattoos\, especially on attendees who could visit the AARP booth. My favorite sighting was a guy in his 80’s\, dressed like he was going to go work out at the local gym. On his left calf there was US. On his right calf MC. Hooah!”\n \n\nDetails:\n\n\n\nImmerse yourself in a celebrated St.Paul tradition! Now proudly presented by Walker | West Music Academy\, the Selby Ave. Jazz Fest brings nearly 10\,000 people together for an unforgettable day of world-class live jazz\, local art\, food\, and vibrant community energy. \n DAY ONE / September 12\, 2026 • Electric • Immersive • Soulful • Kinetic • Unscripted • Celebrated • Unforgettable • Unifying • Collaborative \n Experience a free\, full day of world-class music\, the Village Marketplace\, diverse food specialties\, and a dedicated Family Fun Zone. SUMMARY:Mpls: Mini Trees at 7th St Entry (Sep 12\, 2026)
DESCRIPTION:Mini Trees at 7th St Entry (Sep 12\, 2026)\n\nSeptember 12\, 2026 Saturday\n Mini Trees\nwith frown line\nat 7th St Entry\nfirst-avenue.com\nLos Angeles’ Mini Trees is returning to Minnesota\, playing the 7th Street Entry on September 12\, 2026.\n\n \n\nWe saw Mini Trees in their first appearance in the area in April 2022 and wrote\, “On their first appearance in the area\, Los Angeles based Mini Trees thanked the audience for showing up early to hear them play. We wrote about the band in July 2021\, saying that it was Lexi Vega’s solo musical project\, and they will be releasing a debut album on Run For Cover Records. At that time\, we actually didn’t know the title of her album… well I would like to report that the album is called Always In Motion\, and the band played songs from that debut album… including “Carrying On” and “Cracks in the Pavement”. Many of Lexi’s songs are reflection of being a mix race of Cuban-born father and Japanese-American mother\, and her perspective through her identity… never quite fitting in\, growing up in suburban southern California. The group ended their set with their first single\, “Spring”\, which they jokingly hoped that Minnesota could one day enjoy (it’s been an absolutely miserably cold spring).”\nfrown line (the indie rock project of Montreal-based Annika Devlin) to open.\nTour dates\n\nSep 2\, 2026 Polaris Hall Portland\, OR\nSep 3\, 2026 Tractor Tavern Seattle\, WA\nSep 4\, 2026 WISE Hall Vancouver\, Canada\nSep 6\, 2026 Shrine Social Club Boise\, ID\nSep 7\, 2026 Kilby Court Salt Lake City\, UT\nSep 9\, 2026 Larimer Lounge Denver\, CO\nSep 10\, 2026 Rye Room @ Bourbon Theatre Lincoln\, NE\nSep 11\, 2026 Lemonade Park Kansas City\, MO\nSep 12\, 2026 7th St Entry Minneapolis\, MN\nSep 13\, 2026 Falcon Bowl Milwaukee\, WI\nSep 15\, 2026 The Pyramid Scheme Grand Rapids\, MI\nSep 16\, 2026 Lager House Detroit\, MI\nSep 17\, 2026 The Drake Underground Toronto\, ON\nSep 19\, 2026 The Drake Amherst\, MA\nSep 20\, 2026 Baby’s All Right Brooklyn\, NY\nSep 22\, 2026 SPACE Portland\, ME\nSep 23\, 2026 POP Montreal Montreal\, Canada\nDec 11\, 2026 KUTX Holiday Hootenanny Austin\, TX\nDec 18\, 2026 Pappy + Harriet’s Pioneertown\, CA\n\n \n  \nSocial Share\n Share on Add Us (Opens in new window)\n Add Us\n \n Share on Instagram (Opens in new window)\n Instagram\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n More\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window)\n Mastodon\n \n Share on Telegram (Opens in new window)\n Telegram\n \n Share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window)\n Nextdoor\n Like this:Like Loading…

DESCRIPTION:Dominique Fils-Aimé at Dakota (Sep 13\, 2026)\n\n\nSeptember 13\, 2026 Sunday\n Dominique Fils Aimé\nat Dakota Jazz Club\ndakotacooks.com\n\nDominique Fils-Aimé will be returning to the Dakota Jazz Club\, in Minneapolis\, on September 13\, 2026. The show continues Dominique’s The Sunshine World Tour which has stopped in Austria\, Monaco\, Germany\, Switzerland\, France\, Belgium\, the Netherlands\, the Czech Republic\, Canada\, and now the United States.\n\n Dominique Fils-Aimé \n\n\nWe saw Dominique Fils-Aimé in September 2025 and wrote\, “Dominique is from Canada and a daughter of Haitian Immigrants. She has been performing for about ten years\, introducing herself to a broader audience when she competed on Quebec’s version of The Voice aka La Voix in 2015. From there she has released four albums\, two of them winning the Canadian Juno Award for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year\, they being Stay Tuned from 2019 and Our Roots Run Deep in 2023. She also released her first live album this year\, Live at the Montreal International Jazz Festival. As she took the stage with her band\, she did something unusual but made perfect sense. She introduced her band\, saying\, “You wouldn’t go to a party and introduce people at the end of the evening.” She also asked the audience to refrain from clapping after every song. The reason was to create a flow and to help her and the band keep in the musical moment. Finally\, she said that she would mostly perform with her eyes closed\, which I imagined helped her stay in the moment.”\n \nSocial Share\n Share on Add Us (Opens in new window)\n Add Us\n \n Share on Instagram (Opens in new window)\n Instagram\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n More\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window)\n Mastodon\n \n Share on Telegram (Opens in new window)\n Telegram\n \n Share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window)\n Nextdoor\n Like this:Like Loading…

Sometime singers release solo albums because of ego or control … but based on hearing Flowers’ brand of music (accompanied by a full backing back\, a horns section\, and two dedicated backup soul singer)\, I can tell you that he needed to release his music under his own name\, because these uplifting songs did not seem to belong on a typical Killers album… Although the second half of his set consisted of plenty of The Killers songs\, which kept the fans very happy\, clapping\, and singing along. My favorite moment of his set was for the brand new intro song\, “Come Out With Me”\, which Flowers personalized to Minneapolis by adding “Stone Arch Bridge”\, “Saint Paul” and “Mill City Nights” to the song.”\n \nSocial Share\n Share on Add Us (Opens in new window)\n Add Us\n \n Share on Instagram (Opens in new window)\n Instagram\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n More\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window)\n Mastodon\n \n Share on Telegram (Opens in new window)\n Telegram\n \n Share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window)\n Nextdoor\n Like this:Like Loading…

SUMMARY:CA: Squeeze at the Warfield (Sep 15\, 2026)
DESCRIPTION:Squeeze: Tried\, Tested and Trixies Tour\n\n\nConsider this a jumpstart to the hearts of ‘80s new wave fans dying for the singular pop sounds of the era: English band Squeeze are currently touring North America with heavyweight ‘80s British stalwarts Haircut 100 and Adam Ant in tow on most dates (Leon Tilbrook\, son of Squeeze singer/guitarist Glenn Tilbrook\, opens on a few dates\, and the English Beat open for the L.A. date at the Hollywood Bowl). Touring in support of their latest album\, Trixies\, which was released in March\, you can expect Squeeze to dip into all the sun-soaked songs of love and love lost from their storied career—”Cool for Cats\,” “Tempted\,” “Up the Junction\,” and the list goes on. Put on your cable-knit to sing along to Haircut 100 classics like “Love Plus One\,” or grab some face paint and a fluffy pirate shirt to dance to Adam Ant’s new wave classics like “Goody Two Shoes” if you’re lucky to catch all three in your town. SUMMARY:Mpls: Frankie Rose at Cloudland Theater (Sep 15\, 2026)
DESCRIPTION:Frankie Rose announces a full North American tour\, with most dates supporting The Charlatans UK\, as well as two headline shows in Los Angeles and Minneapolis. The tour kicks off Sept. 5 in San Diego at the House of Blues. Frankie’s new album Hila is due Sept. 18. \n***\nHila. A record about loss. What persists beyond the range of ordinary perception? The place mourning keeps returning to — not quite transcendence\, not quite doubt. The edge of what we can see.”\nFrankie Rose has spent fifteen years building one of the most quietly distinctive bodies of work in American independent music. Bursting out of the shackles of her legacy on 2023’s Love As Projection\, 2026’s Hila builds on the muscular\, dance-ready songwriting and transcendent melodies to result on Rose’s most exploratory and affecting record of her career. Imbued with yearning melodies and brooding post-punk dynamics\, Hila is Frankie Rose at her most impressionistic and expansive. \nSelf-produced at her home studio featuring collaborations with drummer Justin Welch (Elastica/Lush)\, Hila was recorded following extensive touring with The Jesus & Mary Chain and Swervedriver. The result is the most confident\, searching music Rose has produced; muscular in its production yet emotionally vulnerable in its diffracted neon glow. A record informed by loss and the way grief mutates our senses\, it’s fitting that Rose channels the nuanced darkness of later Coil\, at times the pounding EBM-production of Skinny Puppy and the near-spiritual alien-ness of Cocteau Twins. On Hila\, the doors of perception are constantly melting\, revealing the porous nature of the seen and unseen. The result is a synesthesia that flips the senses. \nIf Love As Projection was an outward-looking record looking to embrace the world\, Hila brings the dark cosmos into inner space. Rose’s love for 80s production and soaring melodies remain\, they’re cornerstones to her craft after all\, but there’s something more assured and gothic underneath the massive waves of sound. Opener “Olo” shimmers into a pulsating\, cinematic brooder\, Rose’s vocal transcending and swan diving between registers in the chorus breakdowns. First single “Cant Be Wrong” serves as a transition from the optimistic pop of Rose’s previous album\, introducing a thumping 80s funk rhythm track under the soaring vocal performance. The ebullient “Shadow Twin” is that song’s sibling\, recalling major label-era Strawberry Switchblade melancholy mixed with Robin Guthrie’s twinkling guitar work.\nHila blossoms darkly from here on in\, blowing out into a glacial wide-screen sonic dynamic. On “Rainman” and the title track\, the listener is transported to a rain-soaked\, nocturnal cityscape ridden with desire\, moonlight cutting through blinds\, intoxicating chasms without bounds. Rose’s use of saxophone and digital synthesis recalls the nightmusic of Hats-era Blue Nile or the more ambient end of Emeralds’ catalog. Indeed\, in the towering synthetic cello sounds that climb into the mind on Hila\, there’s a distinct flavour of the instrumentals on Bowie’s Low. This is musick to play in the dark\, to light the way a little\, just enough to trick the senses.\nLeading into the strobe-filled haze\, single “Manifest” pounds forward with a massive Industrial 4/4 beat and post-punk/goth musicality\, an exercise in unlit ecstasy. For “Best Of Times\,” the liberal saxophone passages feel like a suppressed\, 80s Michael Mann soundtrack with Frankie Rose’s effortless\, melodic vocal performance probing\, searching for connection. Navigating through the dry\, iced landscape into a rising sun\, closer “Velvet Refrain” flips the melancholy of the preceding passages. With a massive sound dripping with harmony\, the clanging guitar and vocal duet feels they’re sound-tracking an unexpected happy ending after bouts of darkness.” \nTOUR DATES \nSep-5 San Diego CA House of Blues *\nSep-6 Los Angeles CA Zebulon\nSep-7 San Francisco CA Castro Theater *\nSep-10 Portland OR Wonder Ballroom *\nSep-11 Vancouver BC Commodore Ballroom *\nSep-12 Seattle WA The Showbox *\nSep-15 Minneapolis MN Cloudland Theater\nSep-17 Chicago IL Park West *\nSep-19 Detroit MI El Club *\nSep-20 Toronto ON Danforth Music Hall *\nSep-21 Montreal QC Fairmont Theatre *\nSep-22 Boston MA The Paradise Rock Club *\nSep-23 Philadelphia PA Union Transfer *\nSep-25 Silver Spring MD The Fillmore Silver Spring *\nSep-26 Brooklyn NY Brooklyn Steel * \n*=w/ The Charlatans UK \nSocial Share\n Share on Add Us (Opens in new window)\n Add Us\n \n Share on Instagram (Opens in new window)\n Instagram\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n More\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window)\n Mastodon\n \n Share on Telegram (Opens in new window)\n Telegram\n \n Share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window)\n Nextdoor\n Like this:Like Loading…

SUMMARY:Mpls: BAILEN at Turf Club (Sep 15\, 2026)
DESCRIPTION:BAILEN at Turf Club (Sep 15\, 2026)\n\nSeptember 15\, 2026 Tuesday\n BAILEN\nat Turf Club\nfirst-avenue.com\nSibling band Bailen (Julia\, Daniel\, and David) returns to Minnesota\, playing the Turf Club\, in St Paul\, on September 15\, 2026.\n\n \n\nWe saw Bailen in June 2019 and wrote\, “Opening up the show was sibling band Bailen\, featuring Julia\, Daniel\, and David Bailen. There’s a certain homemade charm about them\, as we discovered the first time we encountered the trio with Joseph in Sep 2017. The NYC group recently released their debut album Thrilled To Be Here (Fantasy Records)\, and they were literally thrilled to be playing some choice cuts from the record like “Something Tells Me”\, “I Was Wrong”\, and the rousing foot-stomper “Not Gonna Take Me”. Before “Stray Dog”\, Daniel said that it was nice to be back in the city (headlining the 7th Street Entry on 25 February 2019)\, but admitted that they didn’t miss the “negative 28 degrees”. For their self-admitted most pop song\, “Going On A Feeling”\, the group joked that they needed to turn on the auto-tune machine in the back. They closed out their 35-min set with the harmonizing “25 For The Last Time”.”\n \n  \nSocial Share\n Share on Add Us (Opens in new window)\n Add Us\n \n Share on Instagram (Opens in new window)\n Instagram\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n More\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window)\n Mastodon\n \n Share on Telegram (Opens in new window)\n Telegram\n \n Share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window)\n Nextdoor\n Like this:Like Loading…

SUMMARY:Mpls: Sondre Lerche at The Cedar (Sep 16\, 2026)
DESCRIPTION:Sondre Lerche released “Follow The River\,” the second single to be released from his forthcoming album Acrobats that arrives on August 21 via PLZ/Virgin. The song is a flamboyant dance pop-odyssey that clocks in at more than 9 minutes on the sprawling album version\, with a compact 4-minute version also released today. \nEach of the song’s six verses zoom in on the profound and mundane details of two lost dreamers meeting and falling in love through music. In contrast to the remainder of Lerche’s forthcoming album\, “Follow The River” is unashamedly upbeat and optimistic\, as illustrated by singer Suzanne Sumbundu’s rousing gospel style choir and adlibs. The recording contains many musical easter eggs and nods to everyone from Pet Shop Boys and Mahler to Janet Jackson and Steve Reich\, and features what is perhaps Lerche’s most natural and simplistic chorus so far in his ever-expanding catalogue. \nAbout the song\, Lerche explains\, “‘Follow The River’ started life as a small\, simple song when I wrote it at home on my acoustic guitar. But with each verse the story grew into a flamboyant dance pop-odyssey\, 9 minutes long in its sprawling album version. By the end of it I had to call in my friend singer Suzanne Sumbundu to provide a rousing gospel style choir and adlibs.” \nThe new single follows the release of “Little Kids\,” which features vivid string arrangements by Sean O’Hagan (High Llamas) and performed by the Stockholm Studio Orchestra\, who recently played on Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl. Stereogum praised the “lush and memory-drunk song about young love\,” that arrived alongside an “evocative” official video directed by rising Norwegian filmmaker Lea Meyer. \nHis first full-length album of new material in over four years\, Acrobats is a bold\, bombastic and emotionally expansive collection that wrestles with finding love while in times of soulless global unrest and unfathomable human atrocities. Across the eight-song suite\, Lerche moves between joy and introspection\, exploring love not as an escape from reality\, but as a way of confronting it. \n“There’s a dissonance between the increasingly dystopian world we live in and finding beauty and peace in your private life\,” Lerche explains. “It feels almost like a paradox that I’m blessed to have landed in a life and a love that is very meaningful and true. And\, at the same time\, it feels impossible to write a love song without taking into account the unspeakable things that are happening in the world. Falling in love feels more and more like an act of defiance.” \nLerche will celebrate the release of Acrobats with a US tour that will kick off on September 10 in Boston MA\, followed by performances in Washington\, D.C.\, New York\, Chicago\, San Francisco\, Los Angeles\, Seattle and more.
