Justin Jones (TN-52) in a conversation at The National Museum of African American Music in Nashville at 3pm CT about “Building Civic Engagement and Community In The Hour Of Chaos.” They will discuss how to remain strong and create joy during tumultuous times; in the midst of targeting\, how to find strength in ourselves and for our neighbors. \nAllison Russell just completed her second run on Broadway as Persephone in the 8x-Tony Award winning musical Hadestown. She took over the role in November 2024 initially\, after spending much of that year opening for Hozier on his Unreal Unearth Tour supporting his arena run on all US dates and throughout Europe. Freeman-Taylor digs into the wilder side of her range\, while Barbaglia and Addison step out into something more primal. Addison concludes the song with a flurry of drum fills that put an emphatic full stop to the chaos. “I am curious about the bowels of the city\,” comments Freeman-Taylor. “We don’t see what’s below but there are many pipes and caves\, and my friend once said\, ‘If you bury yourself\, i will dig you out again.’ I wanted to immortalize it because it made me feel so warm.” \nDirected by Edie Lawrence and featuring live-action puppetry\, the “drains” video presents a new look for mary in the junkyard. \nOne of the brightest new creative forces in the UK\, mary in the junkyard blur the lines between leftfield experimentation and moments of melodic storytelling that evoke a vivid sense of place. 2024 proved to be a breakout year for the trio with the release of their Richard Russell-produced debut EP This Old House via AMF Records. “drains” is the first taste of new music from the band since last year’s “whisper-soft and mildly spooky” (KCRW) “bear walk” and “this is my california\,” praised by Brooklyn Vegan for its “delicate spectral beauty . . . that recalls everything from Galaxie 500 to Porridge Radio.” \nmary in the junkyard is currently supporting Wet Leg throughout the UK.
