SUMMARY:Mpls: The Paper Kites at First Avenue (May 15\, 2026)
DESCRIPTION:The Paper Kites at First Avenue (May 15\, 2026)\n\n\nMay 15\, 2026 Friday\nThe Paper Kites\nwith Donovan Woodsat First Avenuefirst-avenue.com\n\nThe Paper Kites returns to Minneapolis\, playing First Avenue\, on May 15\, 2026.\n\n\n The Paper Kites \n\n\nWe saw Paper Kites in July 2016 and said\, “The Paper Kites (Sam Bentley\, Christina Lacy\, Dave Powys\, Sam Rasmussen\, and Josh Bentley) said they love\, love playing Minneapolis. Their fanbase here is incredible\, and they just love the audience (which were mostly young college-bound or college students). There is something hopelessly romantic about the Paper Kites’ songs that speaks to their fans. In fact\, singer Sam Bentley said that they filmed two music videos in Minneapolis\, which would make them “practically Minnesotans”. They had enough songs to make for a full set from their two albums States and twelvefour\, and that meant no cover songs. They took out the banjo to play two songs\, starting with ‘Bloom’\, followed by ‘St Clarity’\, both songs were incredibly well-received. Prior to playing ‘A Silent Cause’\, Bentley told this story about how he got really sick at the Winnipeg Folk Festival (which just took place July 7-10\, 2016)\, and during their 40-min to their hotel\, he threw up in his backpack!”\n\n\nDonovan Woods to open.\nSocial Share\n Share on Add Us (Opens in new window)\n Add Us\n \n Share on Instagram (Opens in new window)\n Instagram\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n More\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window)\n Mastodon\n \n Share on Telegram (Opens in new window)\n Telegram\n \n Share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window)\n Nextdoor\n Like this:Like Loading...

SUMMARY:Mpls: Anjimile at Bryant Lake Bowl (May 19\, 2026)
DESCRIPTION:North Carolina based singer-songwriter Anjimile releases “Waits For Me\,” the second single from his upcoming album You’re Free to Go\, due March 13th on 4AD. \n“When I was a little girl\, I wanted to be free… When I was a little boy\, I wanted to be real.”\, he disarmingly reflects on “Waits For Me\,” a powerful reckoning on childhood identity\, as he affirms and soothes his inner child via warm acoustic guitar\, glimmering synths and bright percussion. \nThe new track points towards the album’s intimate focus on self-expression and healing\, inspired by Jimi’s own journey. But even in its most searching moments\, the record radiates light. Each song holds space for turning pain into something tender\, communal\, and free. \n“Waits For Me” follows the luminous lead single “Like You Really Mean It” which overflows with tenderness and vulnerability\, and November stand-alone single “Auld Lang Syne II\,” a tender note-to-self on resilience and hard-fought freedom. \nContrasting the intricacy and complexity of The King\, You’re Free to Go unfolds organically under the intuitive direction of producer Brad Cook (Waxahatchee\, Hurray for the Riff Raff\, Mavis Staples). The album’s songs bloom naturally\, grounded in warm acoustic guitars\, subtle synth textures\, lush string arrangements\, and delicate rhythmic layers. Collaborative efforts with musicians Nathan Stocker (Hippo Campus)\, Matt McCaughan (Bon Iver)\, and guest vocalist Sam Beam (Iron & Wine) – a personal hero of Anjimile whose music deeply influenced the album even before his involvement – cultivate an exploratory yet intimate atmosphere\, perfectly aligned with Anjimile’s nuanced storytelling. \nYou’re Free to Go\, picks up where The King left off\, but with its hands open wide – a central question being: what happens when you let go and let love in? \nCrafted over years marked by transformation\, the album traces vividly the profound complexities of change – from breakups to new love; deep grief and loss to renewal and rediscovery. “The past two years have been a deeply transitional point in my life\,” Anjimile explains. On You’re Free to Go\, he learns to trust life again. \nMelodically\, the album evokes a subtle nostalgia for late-’90s alternative pop\, seamlessly blending folk sensibilities into inviting\, memorable hooks. Anjimile has notably evolved\, adopting a more relaxed and expressive approach to his singing\, partly due to his ongoing hormonal therapy – a transformative journey he embraces gladly. This newfound vocal depth amplifies the album’s emotional resonance\, allowing him to express himself with greater authenticity. \nYou’re Free to Go is a portrait of transformation — not as a wound\, but as an opening. Richly textured\, this collection of songs is an honest reflection of life’s fluctuations. It holds space for contradiction and finds liberation in tenderness. As Anjimile beautifully articulates\, the album embodies “breathing into the question\,” acknowledging that life’s most profound moments often come without clear answers\, but rather exist in the gentle tension of uncertainty and discovery. In every note\, Anjimile provides space for each listener to reflect and uncover their own truths\, while gently reminding us that freedom isn’t the absence of pain\, but the courage to love\, to ask\, to keep beginning again. \nToday Anjimile also announces his March residency at the Fuzzy Needle in Durham\, North Carolina\, presented by Phish on Philm\, along with the confirmation of U.S. Tour dates in May and June. See below for the full list of live dates. \nYou’re Free to Go will be available from March 13th digitally\, on CD and on standard LP (Green). Emerging from Boston’s vibrant indie scene while studying at Northeastern University\, Anjimile captivated audiences with earnest songwriting\, delicate sonic textures\, and performances that felt like prayer and celebration. \nCritical acclaim quickly followed; 2020’s Giver Taker\, hailed by Rolling Stone as one of the year’s best albums\, positioned him as a compelling voice exploring enduring themes of spirituality\, identity\, and liberation. With The King (2023)\, Anjimile intensified his examination of Black and trans existence amid personal and societal turbulence\, reaffirming his courageous commitment to navigating discomfort as a means of liberation. \nSocial Share\n Share on Add Us (Opens in new window)\n Add Us\n \n Share on Instagram (Opens in new window)\n Instagram\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n More\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window)\n Mastodon\n \n Share on Telegram (Opens in new window)\n Telegram\n \n Share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window)\n Nextdoor\n Like this:Like Loading...

SUMMARY:Jacksonville Jazz Festival 2026
DESCRIPTION:Jacksonville Jazz Festival (May 22-24\, 2026)\n\n\nJacksonville Jazz Festival\nMay 22-24\, 2026\nat Jacksonville\, Florida\njacksonvillejazzfest.com\n\nOne of the country’s best Jazz music festival\, Jacksonville Jazz Festival is returning on May 22 to May 24\, 2026. Every year the Jacksonville Jazz Festival draws in people from around the globe\, and this year\, as usual\, they have put together an amazing lineup. I’m super excited to see the funkmaster George Clinton\, the Prince-royalty Sheila E\, and song master Nile Rodgers (he wrote and produced some of your favorites like David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance”\, Duran Duran’s “The Reflex”\, and Madonna’s “Like a Virgin.”\n\nCan you believe it’s all FREE??? I’m hoping to attend all three dates\, but I do reserve the right to not attend due to weather (too hot or too rainy!)\, but if I can keep hydrated\, I will be watching the show.\n \n\n Kool and the Gang \n\n\nI attended last year’s Jacksonville Jazz Festival in May 2025 and reported back\, “What can I say about Kool & the Gang that haven’t been said\, before. The band is a legendary band\, having been around since 1969. Throughout the years ‘the Gang’ has changed\, with mostly new members joining in the early 2000’s as older members retired or died (Kool Bell’s brother Ronald Bell died in 2020). Robert “Kool” Bell is keeping the legacy alive\, and the band had him step into the spotlight to say a few words. Kool said that when they first started\, in the 1960s\, they didn’t know what to call themselves. They had so many band names\, including Soul Town Band and The Flames… but they had to change their name\, because James Brown objected (Brown’s band was called the Famous Flames). Eventually\, as history would have it\, they settled on Kool and the Gang. And since then\, they’ve had unbelievable success with their name and funk\, jazz\, hip-hop songs.”\n\n\n2026 Artist Lineup\n \n\n\n\nFriday\, May 22\, 2026 \n\nParliament Funkadelic feat George Clinton\nGhost-Note\nButcher Brown\nJohn Lumpkin II \n\n\nSaturday\, May 23\, 2026 \n\nAndra Day\nEsperanza Spalding \nSheila E and the E-Train\nKim Scott\nEliane Elas\n\n\nSunday\, May 24\, 2026 \n\nNile Rodgers & CHIC\nKamasi Washington\nGalactic feat Jelly Joseph\nMoonchild\n\n\n\n\nSocial Share\n Share on Add Us (Opens in new window)\n Add Us\n \n Share on Instagram (Opens in new window)\n Instagram\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n More\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window)\n Mastodon\n \n Share on Telegram (Opens in new window)\n Telegram\n \n Share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window)\n Nextdoor\n Like this:Like Loading...

SUMMARY:Jax: Shinedown at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena (May 26\, 2026)
DESCRIPTION:One of the biggest bands in the world\, Shinedown have once again made history as their single “Searchlight” has gone #1 on TWO rock radio charts: #1 on Mediabase’s Active Rock Chart (marking the band’s 24th #1 song on the chart) and #1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay Chart (marking the band’s 22th #1 song on the chart). With this achievement\, Shinedown further extend their all-time records for the most #1 songs on both charts – two incredible milestones that continue to solidify their unmatched dominance at radio. \n“Searchlight” has been one of the most meaningful songs of the band’s career. The track made its historic live debut at the Grand Ole Opry during the band’s first-ever appearance on the iconic stage. Introducing the song that night\, frontman Brent Smith told the audience\, “Sometimes when you listen close enough to the universe and you’re willing to receive something from it\, a song can come out of thin air. We didn’t find this one\, it found us.” The performance became one of the most talked-about moments of the evening\, with the audience giving the band a standing ovation and resonating deeply with fans and critics alike. \nWritten by Brent Smith\, Eric Bass\, and Dave Bassett\, and produced by Eric Bass at Big Animal Studio\, “Searchlight” showcases Shinedown at their most expansive. Blending elements of rock\, Americana\, rhythm and blues\, bluegrass\, and outlaw country\, the song retains the anthemic power and emotional urgency that have defined the band’s career. \nFollowing the news of the chart-topping achievement\, Brent Smith shared a heartfelt message on socials thanking everyone for championing the song and helping it reach #1. In the video he said: “I don’t look emotional because I’m sad. I’m emotional because I’m really grateful\, humbled and honored because I was just told that ‘Searchlight’ is the number one song on rock radio…. I’m sure there were a lot of people that were like\, it doesn’t belong on rock radio\, but the audience said otherwise and the program director said otherwise. Thank you to rock radio in general: thank you. To the program directors\, to the cities\, to the fans\, to Shinedown Nation\, to everybody at Atlantic Records\, to everybody at In De Goot Entertainment\, to the promotion teams\, to broadcast radio\, to terrestrial radio – thank you. You’ve given us a career. We don’t take it for granted. I know I’m emotional. I tried to do this video a few times without being emotional. It’s hard. Thank you so much. Seriously. I can’t be a tough guy\, you know. Not today. This is about the most rock and roll thing I could do. So\, thank you so much on behalf of myself and Eric and Barry and Zach. Thank you so much. I promise you\, we will never phone it in\, ever. Thank you for the continued support. Long live rock radio. My full respect. Thank you all.” Watch the full video HERE. \nThe success of “Searchlight” continues a landmark run for Shinedown. Over the past year\, the band has delivered multiple #1 rock radio hits including “Dance\, Kid\, Dance” and “Killing Fields\,” while “Three Six Five” achieved crossover success across Alternative\, Hot AC\, AC\, and Top 40 formats. Meanwhile their latest song “Safe and Sound” has hit #32 on Active Rock radio and climbing. \nThe band is currently gearing up for the release of their highly anticipated eighth studio album\, EI8HT\, arriving May 29 via Atlantic Records. Shinedown will also embark on their massive Dance Kid Dance Act II World Tour\, spanning North America\, the United Kingdom\, and Europe. \nWith 24 Mediabase Active Rock #1’s\, 21 Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay #1’s\, over 8.3 billion global streams\, platinum and gold certifications across their catalog\, and a career defined by emotional connection and fearless ambition\, Shinedown continues to raise the bar for what it means to be one of the biggest bands in the world. \nAs 2026 unfolds\, the band’s momentum shows no signs of slowing. “Searchlight” is not just another #1 — it is a testament to the unwavering bond between Shinedown\, their fans\, and the rock community worldwide. \nFor more information\, visit http://www.shinedown.com. \nSHINEDOWN DANCE KID DANCE ACT II WORLD TOUR DATES \nMay 13 – Green Bay\, WI – Resch Center *^%\nMay 15 – Columbus\, OH – Sonic Temple Festival Headlining\nMay 16 – Madison\, WI – Kohl Center *^%\nMay 18 – Sioux Falls\, SD – Denny Sanford PREMIER Center *^%\nMay 19 – Wichita\, KS – INTRUST Bank Arena *^%%\nMay 22 – Austin\, TX – Moody Center *^%\nMay 23 – Oklahoma City\, OK – Paycom Center *^%\nMay 26 – Jacksonville\, FL – VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena *^%\nMay 28 – Estero\, FL – Hertz Center *^%\nMay 30 – Tampa\, FL – Benchmark International Arena *^%\nJune 2 – Biloxi\, MS – Mississippi Coast Coliseum *^%\nJune 5 – Norfolk\, VA – Chartway Arena *^%\nJune 6 – Hershey\, PA – GIANT Center *^%\nJuly 11 – Mt. SUMMARY:Mpls: Gozu and Restless Spirit at 7th St Entry (May 31\, 2026)
DESCRIPTION:Massachusetts stoner/fuzz rock outfit GOZU will join New York stoner/doom metallers Restless Spirit for a US co-headlining tour. The journey begins on May 24th in Providence\, Rhode Island and runs through June 27th in Cambridge\, Massachusetts. \nGOZU vocalist/guitarist Marc Gaffney comments\, “GOZU is incredibly excited to get back on the road and get it going. The new album [Gozu VI] will be prominent in the set\, and we will be playing songs from all of our albums. So\, get ready to shake your ass and top that glass. Eat a peach!” \nAdds Restless Spirit vocalist/guitarist Paul Aloisio\, “We are beyond excited to bring our new songs on the road after working so hard to create what we feel is our best album to date. [Restless Spirit is set for release May 8th]. We’ll be curating a setlist that will cater to fans of all eras of the band\, both old and new. And by joining forces with GOZU\, we know for a fact that there is going to be an abundance of heaviness each night. Don’t miss this tour!” \nTickets go on sale Friday\, April 3rd at 10:00am local time. See all confirmed dates below. \nGOZU w/ Restless Spirit:\n5/24/2026 Alchemy – Providence\, RI\n5/26/2026 Photo City – Rochester\, NY\n5/27/2026 Centennial Hall – Erie\, PA\n5/29/2026 The Green Door – Lansing\, MI\n5/30/2026 Reggies Music Joint – Chicago\, IL\n5/31/2026 7th St Entry – Minneapolis\, MN\n6/02/2026 The Record Bar – Kansas City\, MO\n6/03/2026 HQ – Denver\, CO\n6/05/2026 The Shredder – Boise\, ID\n6/06/2026 The Funhouse – Seattle\, WA\n6/07/2026 High Water Mark – Portland\, OR\n6/09/2026 Cafe Colonial – Sacramento\, CA\n6/11/2026 Knucklehead – Los Angeles\, CA\n6/16/2026 The Lost Well – Austin\, TX\n6/17/2026 Siberia – New Orleans\, LA\n6/18/2026 Eastside Bowl – Nashville\, TN\n6/19/2026 Bogg’s Social & Supply – Atlanta\, GA\n6/20/2026 New Brookland Tavern – West Columbia\, SC\n6/21/2026 Chapel Of Bones – Raleigh\, NC\n6/23/2026 The Camel – Richmond\, VA\n6/24/2026 Metro Gallery – Baltimore\, MD\n6/25/2026 Gold Sounds – Brooklyn\, NY\n6/26/2026 Nikki Lopez – Philadelphia\, PA\n6/27/2026 Middle East Upstairs – Cambridge\, MA \nGOZU will be touring in support of their forthcoming new full-length\, Gozu VI\, set for release on May 15th through Blacklight Media/Metal Blade Records. \n“We wanted something that really moved and hit a nerve\,” says GOZU singer/guitarist Marc Gaffney on composing the band’s sixth studio album. “I was pretty roughed up emotionally while writing. I played guitar more in the past two years than ever before. I would work\, go to the gym\, come home\, eat and then play guitar until I went to bed.” \nThe end result is eight action-packed tracks\, produced and mixed by Benny Grotto at Boston’s Mad Oak Studios. With Gozu VI\, the lineup’s melding of intense\, fuzzy ‘70s-inspired riffs\, rich\, catchy\, grunge-esque vocal melodies\, and a touch of oldschool stoner psychedelia has reached a zenith. Categorize them how you will. “We don’t mind if people think we’re stoner\, doom\, heavy\, easy listening with a touch of cayenne pepper. I feel we’re just a heavy soulful band\,” Gaff says. “We play music that people can shake their ass to and lyrics that are honest and deal with human nature.” \nWatch GOZU’s previously released video for “Banacek” HERE. \nGozu VI will be released digitally.
