Osborn III Convention Center\, in Jacksonville\, Florida. \n\n Costume Contest at Twin Cities Con (10 Nov 2024) \n\n\nAs the Weekend Gamer\, I do like a bit of anime and manga\, but I’m casual\, at best. I love taking photos of cosplayers (especially if the costume is so good!)\, but I don’t know many current anime\, so I usually have to ask them who they are dressed up as (embarrassingly enough). Here is a cosplay photo I took at Twin Cities Convention 2024.\nI don’t know any of the guests\, but if you’re into the culture\, you’ll know who they are. Plenty of cosplayers\, influencers\, and local community groups. These are your people!\n\nMedia guests: \n\n • Amir Talai• Anjali Kunapaneni• Brad Swaile• Joel Perez• Natalie Van Sistine• Shannon Chan-Kent• Skye Redden\n\n \nSocial Share\n Share on Add Us (Opens in new window)\n Add Us\n \n Share on Instagram (Opens in new window)\n Instagram\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n More\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window)\n Mastodon\n \n Share on Telegram (Opens in new window)\n Telegram\n \n Share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window)\n Nextdoor\n Like this:Like Loading…

The seed for the track came from when we last toured in the States\, specifically after our show at Newport Music Hall in Columbus. Our Ohio-native friends David and Philly Reed took us to their favorite bar. We had a good ol fashioned knees up with the gang – our crew\, band and friends. SUMMARY:Jax: YXSTABY Gaming Event Weekend at IKEA\, Jacksonville (October 10-11\, 2026)
DESCRIPTION:YXSTABY Gaming Event (Oct 10-11\, 2026)\n\nExplore More\n■ IKEARiding on the Gamescom excitement\, IKEA and XBOX announced their collaboration: “YXSTABY”. If you were wondering about that crappy name\, it’s a weird pronunciation of the Xbox controller layouts – a\, b\, x\, y\, start\, trigger. However clever they think they are\, nobody likes that stupid name. And personally speaking\, for myself\, I did not really like ANY of their collaboration. \n\n\n\nOctober 10\, 2026 SaturdayOctober 11\, 2026 Sunday YXSTABY Gaming Event\nat IKEA (Jacksonville)\nikea.com\n\nI don’t think anyone likes the name YXSTABY (“YX-Stabby”?)\, but that’s the name of the IKEA and Xbox collaboration. The IKEA’s YXSTABY Gaming Event Weekend is taking place this weekend (October 10-11\, 2026).\nThe event is free\, but if you want the free exclusive keychain\, you need to register with IKEA… which means you need to create an IKEA account. That’s fine\, you get points or something. I don’t go to IKEA that much\, because it’s so far away from where I live\, and also\, I don’t really buy that much furniture. \n\n I didn’t really have anything going on Saturday\, so I registered. I’ll report back Saturday evening. From their photos\, I think they look dumb\, but who knows\, maybe in person and interacting with them in real life – I might feel different about them.\n\nEvent Details:\n\nTest your gaming trivia knowledge\, show off your creativity and come dressed as your favorite gaming character; search for the hidden Spartans in the YXSTABY scavenger hunt\, take a fun photo\, enjoy special gaming-themed food offers\, and experience the new YXSTABY collection designed for gaming life at home! \nImportant: Registration is required to be eligible to receive the YXSTABY event keychain. Keychains will be distributed to registered IKEA Family members on a first-come\, first-served basis while supplies last. Registration does not guarantee availability. Limit one keychain per IKEA Family membership. \nOct 10\, 2026\, 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM7801 Gate ParkwayIKEA Jacksonville\, FL \n\n\nSocial Share\n Share on Add Us (Opens in new window)\n Add Us\n \n Share on Instagram (Opens in new window)\n Instagram\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n More\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window)\n Mastodon\n \n Share on Telegram (Opens in new window)\n Telegram\n \n Share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window)\n Nextdoor\n Like this:Like Loading…

SUMMARY:Mpls: Snail Mail and Soccer Mommy at Palace Theatre (Oct 10\, 2026)
DESCRIPTION:Snail Mail and Soccer Mommy at Palace Theatre (Oct 10\, 2026)\n \n\nOctober 10\, 2026 Saturday\n Snail Mail and Soccer Mommy\nwith Brennan Wedlat Palace Theatre\nfirst-avenue.com\n\nSnail Mail and Soccer Mommy are co-headlining the Palace Theatre\, in St Paul\, on October 10\, 2026.\n\n\n \n\n\nWe’ve seen both bands before\, with Snail Mail comes to mind on her headlining show at First Avenue in July 2019 describing the show: “This was Snail Mail’s fifth time in the Minneapolis area (which we previously listed or spotlight every time: May 2017\, July 2017\, October 2017\, June 2018\, and July 2019)\, but this was the first time she’s graced the larger mainroom at First Avenue. Lindsey smiled and said\, “Thanks for making this happen.” The dancefloor was completely filled with young fans\, dancing and singing along. It’s clear that all her previous appearances (which all happened within two years!) that she’s built up a solid fanbase from word of mouth. Watching how easily Snail Mail plays as a band\, easing into the next song\, and just naturally performing on stage. It’s hard to believe that Lindsey is only 20 years old. It should be interesting to see what they have in store for us for the inevitable next album.”\n\nThe ticket limit is strict. SUMMARY:Jax: Applied Communications at The Walrus (October 10\, 2026)
DESCRIPTION:Note: Updated details \nEvent is for Applied Communications. Applied Communications is the solo electronic and experimental pop project of musician Max Wood\, based in Washington\, D.C. Wood started the project as a teenager\, releasing the polarising album Uhh Sort Of in 2005. After a long hiatus\, the project returned with new releases including the 2024 collection Has A Midlife Crisis and the 2026 LP Applied Communications Bites the Big One (released September 25\, 2026\, via Rare Noodles and Bar/None Records). \nSupport will be The Cadets and Mercy Mercy \nThe Walrus\n948 Edgewood Ave S\, Jacksonville\, FL 32205 \nNote: It looked like the Applied Communications show was originally booked at the Albatross? Seemed like all the details were announced on September 19\, 2026. \n \nThe Cadets at The Walrus (October 10\, 2026)\n\nOctober 10\, 2026 Saturday\nThe Cadets\nat the Walrus\nthewalrusjax.com\n\nJacksonville’s The Cadets is one of four bands sharing the name “the Cadets”. According to last.fm\, Cadets’ frontman Chuck Smyth’s singing style is described as\, “a throttled cat” and “tone-deaf Neil Young on amphetamines.” \n\nTheir not-so-secret origin story is that the band met after a Man or Astro-Man? in 1995. They had their time in the sun\, touring across America and Japan (I heard everything’s big in Japan)… but kind of disappeared in 2007. Nearly 20 years later\, they announced that they’ve signed a record deal with Bar/None Records and will be releasing Exile In Marginalia Vol 4. \n\nTo celebrate the album’s release (on October 2)\, the band will do a Rocktober tour. They’re playing their hometown show at The Walrus on October 10th. I did check the venue’s website\, there’s no listing for the event\, so I don’t know if there are cover charges\, drinks minimum (or hotdog minimum)s\, or any other details… but be there or be square.\n\nTour Dates\n\n\n10/09 Nobby’s\, St Augustine\, FL\n10/10 The Walrus\, Jacksonville\, FL\n10/11 926 Bar\, Tallahassee\, FL\n10/12 The Pinhook\, Durham\, NC\n10/13 Flat Iron\, Greensboro\, NC\n10/14 Nowhere Bar\, Athens\, GA\n10/15 Northside Grill\, Richmond\, VA\n10/16 Manny’s\, State College\, PA\n10/17 Fuzzy Needle\, Wilmington\, NC\n\n \nSocial Share\n Share on Add Us (Opens in new window)\n Add Us\n \n Share on Instagram (Opens in new window)\n Instagram\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n More\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window)\n Mastodon\n \n Share on Telegram (Opens in new window)\n Telegram\n \n Share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window)\n Nextdoor\n Like this:Like Loading…

DESCRIPTION:Karina Rykman at 7th St Entry (Oct 11\, 2026)\n\n\nOctober 11\, 2026 Sunday\n Karina Rykman\nat 7th St Entry\nfirst-avenue.com\n\nAcclaimed singer-songwriter-bassist Karina Rykman is headlining the 7th Street Entry\, in Minneapolis\, on October 11\, 2026\, in support of Late Checkout (Karina Rykman/High Rotation Records).\n\n\n \n\n\nWe saw Rykman in Feb 2024 and wrote\, “Like her previous appearance\, she is certainly all-smiles and laughter throughout the set. In fact\, Rykman mention what an honor it was to play at the historic First Avenue venue (the 7th Street Entry is within the same building). She took a photo of her famous smile in front the venue. I’ll have to admit\, it’s weird to hear her sing\, as most of the songs I’m used to seeing her play are more instrumental (and heavy on the bass). She did play her single “Joyride” early in the set… and after another song\, a surprise cover of Wet Leg’s “Chaise Longue”. Best moment in that song was waiting for the audience to sing back\, “What?””\n\nTour Dates\n\n\nSEPTEMBER25 – New York\, NY – Webster HallOCTOBER2 – Philadelphia\, PA – Ardmore Music Hall3 – Richmond\, VA – Richmond Music Hall8 – Chicago\, IL – Garcia’s Chicago9 – Chicago\, IL – Garcia’s Chicago10 – Madison\, WI – High Noon Saloon11 – Minneapolis\, MN – 7th St Entry13 – St Louis\, MO – Atomic14 – Nashville\, TN – Row One16 – Austin\, TX – Brushy Street Commons17 – Dallas\, TX – Club Dada18 – Houston\, TX – White Oak Music Hall (Upstairs)21 – Atlanta\, GA – Aisle 522 – Asheville\, NC – Asheville Music Hall23 – Live Oak\, FL – Hulaween †24 – Charleston\, SC – The Charleston Pour House25 – Carrboro\, NC – Cat’s Cradle (Backroom) \nNOVEMBER5 – San Diego\, CA – Winstons6 – West Hollywood\, CA – Troubadour7 – San Francisco\, CA – The Independent12 – Bend\, OR – The Domino Room13 – Portland\, OR – Mississippi Studios14 – Seattle\, WA – Barboza17 – Boise\, ID – Shrine Social Club18 – Salt Lake City\, UT – State Room21 – Denver\, CO – Bluebird Theater \nDECEMBER3 – Portland\, ME – Portland House of Music4 – Cambridge\, MA – The Sinclair5 – Burlington\, VT – Higher Ground \n† FESTIVAL APPEARANCE \n\n \nSocial Share\n Share on Add Us (Opens in new window)\n Add Us\n \n Share on Instagram (Opens in new window)\n Instagram\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n More\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window)\n Mastodon\n \n Share on Telegram (Opens in new window)\n Telegram\n \n Share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window)\n Nextdoor\n Like this:Like Loading…

It was indeed their first public appearance with sheet music at the ready and songs still to be fine tuned before going into the studio to record their first album. We caught the band in and wrote\, “Mercury opened the early show. “First time to Minneapolis\,” said Maddie Kerr. From Franklin\, TN\, Kerr looked like she could still be in high school with locks of curly red hair hiding her face. She was excited to be on the road and playing with friends\, even though they were reaching the end of their tour. A band since 2022\, they recently recorded in Asheville\, NC\, their latest EP Together We Are One\, You and I. One of the singles “Born in Early May” was titled as such for Kerr was born at that time. In her press kit it says that she was born to Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You” which may have been fortuitous for her voice has a wonderfully pure sound\, lithe and lilting\, yet powerful enough to rise above the symphonic levels of the three guitars on stage.”\n \nSocial Share\n Share on Add Us (Opens in new window)\n Add Us\n \n Share on Instagram (Opens in new window)\n Instagram\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n More\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window)\n Mastodon\n \n Share on Telegram (Opens in new window)\n Telegram\n \n Share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window)\n Nextdoor\n Like this:Like Loading…

DESCRIPTION:🎸 Don’t leave your memories “far behind” 🎸 \nSeattle alt-rock icons Candlebox are bringing their legendary anthems and gritty grunge straight to FIVE on October 13th with a little help from Sponge! \nThis is going to be an unforgettable night of pure 90s nostalgia\, but “don’t you” show up with “10\,000 horses”…we don’t have stables. \n🎟️ Tickets go on sale Friday\, July 17th at 10 AM\, but join the presale at the link below! \nDetroit-based rousers Sponge today release their brand new single “Self Inflicted Loss” – the first track off the band’s forthcoming studio album titled Recuerda Tu Muerte out Oct 2. \n“Self Inflicted Loss” is a characteristically\, unflinching confessional with a tripped-out\, dark groove. “It’s a dark record\, and I just go\, ‘Y’know\, why not?\,” says lead vocalist Vinnie Dombroski. \nStream / Share “Self Inflicted Loss” HERE \n“Self Inflicted Loss” Single Artwork \nFor the song’s official video\, the band teamed up with Stoopid Buddy Stoodios\, the production house behind Robot Chicken\, Titan Maximum and Buddy Thunderstruck. \n“The making of the music video for “Self Inflicted Loss” was a groovy experience\,” says Creative Producer Ciara Waggoner. “As fans of vintage toys\, we decided to use 1970s Fisher-Price Adventure People action figures\, which were modified by artist Randy Kono to resemble the band.” \nInspired by Sponge’s iconic album Rotting Pinata\, Waggoner and the team behind the video created a story centered around a dingy candy corn factory. In the video\, the band works at the factory until Vinnie accidentally falls into a vat of candy corn (a nod to the cover art for the band’s gold-certified 1994 debut Rotting Pinata)\, launching him into a surreal candy corn trip. The animation took eleven days to shoot\, with a target of animating eleven seconds of footage per day using a combination of stop-motion and downshooter clay animation. A fun Easter egg at the start: the character sitting in front of the security monitors is the Ponda Baba puppet originally featured in the Robot Chicken Star Wars Special. Watch the “Self Inflicted Loss” Video HERE \nThe first thing most people heard from Sponge more than three decades ago was Vinnie asking\, “Will I wake up\, some dream I made up?” – but rest assured there’s nothing artificial about the dream-come-true that’s been the story of the quintet during the past 32 years\, for the band and its fans. \nOver that time Dombroski and a shifting corps of Sponge musicians have released twelve studio albums and scored enduring alternative rock hits such as “Plowed\,” “Molly (Sixteen Candles)\,” “Wax Ecstatic” and “Have You Seen Mary.” The music is at once of its time – as definitive an exemplar of mid-90s alternative rock as you can hope to hear – and timeless. Drop a needle anywhere in Sponge’s robust and eclectic catalog and it sounds like right now\, with a muscular\, guitar-driven attack driving Dombroski’s forceful vocals and evocative\, heavyweight lyricism. \nAll of that still holds true on Recuerda Tu Muerte (Remember Your Death)\, Sponge’s forthcoming and final album featuring on the cover a photograph of a creation by Detroit-area artist and visionary Jon Dunivant of Theater Bizarre called “Abandon All Hope” taken by photographer Sal Rodriguez. Lucky number 13! \nRecuerda Tu Muerte is a follow-up to a pair of 2024 releases — the covers collection 1994 and Planet Girls\, Sponge’s shelved third album that was slated for release in 1999. Produced by Dombroski and guitarist Andy Patalan and recorded in Detroit\, it’s very much the frontman’s take on what he sees around him — still the “world of human wreckage” that he sang about in “Plowed\,” but with the perspective of three-plus decades of both musical and life experience. \n“People used to say\, ‘Well\, you got your whole life to make your first record\,’ and I’m like\, ‘Nah\, I’ve got my whole life to make my last one\, too\, right?'” Dombroski explains. \nRecuerda Tu Muerte\, Dombroski acknowledges\, is a dark title. Darkness is something Sponge has always done well\, of course. The group came from the ashes of the Detroit industrial band Loudhouse\, with Dombroski on drums; it released one album\, in 1991\, and had a second recorded when its vocalist quit. The other members opted to continue\, initially calling the group Electric Cattle Gods until a local venue owner told the band he didn’t have room on his marquee for that moniker. After signing a major label deal\, Dombroski was “a little surprised but not too surprised” by Sponge’s immediate breakthrough with Rotting Pinata (one of several Sponge albums produced by current bassist Tim Patalan) and “Plowed” during 1994. \n“I remember playing ‘Plowed’ the first time\, before anything was going on\, and we got a really good reaction and I thought\, ‘Right\, this one’s a keeper\,'” Dombroski says. \n“It wasn’t\, like\, a typical radio song for the time. Back then AC/DC was still on the radio. (Led) Zeppelin. alt rock was brand new\, and ‘Plowed’ seemed like it was a bit different for commercial radio. And I think people could hear it was coming from the right place. It was real. It was not a formula thing. The cool thing about this new record is there wasn’t a lot of monkeying around\,” Dombroski notes. “There’s no auto-tune\, there’s no beat detective\, there’s no bullshit. Even the vocals on this thing are a couple of takes\, maybe. It’s more about feel than perfection.” \nThe angry\, punk-styled “Lead Gods” laments the plague of gun violence\, and “Lost Pilots” is an elegy specifically for the late Stone Temple Pilots’ Scott Weiland. The psychedelic-tinged “Clearing All the Vultures Away” is about purging poisons from one’s life\, while “Stealing Shadows” mines some dense\, orchestrated sludge. But lest you think it`s all too heavy\, there’s songs such as “Peckerwood” and “Beef Relief” that offer some semi-adolescent levity to the mix. \nIt’s not about finality\, however; listening to Recuerda Tu Muerte’s 10 tracks\, it’s clear Sponge has plenty left in the tank. “It almost feels like we’ve got another shot\, in a way\,” Dombroski says. “It’s the willingness of the guys in the band to get in the van and do this. Everybody gets along real well; they’re talented guys and decent people and willing to get into the vehicle. A lot of bands don’t do it like that anymore\, but we still are able and willing to do it.” \nAlbum Cover Artwork \nArtwork by Jon Dunivant photographed by Sal Rodriguez \nRecuerda Tu Muerte tracklisting: \n1. The new dates include a performace at this summer’s Newport Jazz Festival and several shows in October supporting Black Violin. Tickets are on sale now and all dates can be found at: http://www.braxtoncook.com. \nNot Everyone Can Go is a visionary statement on conflict\, resolution\, and renewed love. It was conceived in a moment of transition and reflects the tensions after a year of balancing a busy touring schedule with family life. The album’s arc stretches from uncertainty to gratitude\, as Braxton doubles down on his family\, letting go of what no longer serves him. The album has drawn high praise from NPR to Essence\, Downbeat to Jazziz\, Vibe and countless others. \nAs his most collaborative effort yet\, Braxton draws from all parts of Black American music\, expanding the definition of what jazz can be. Notable features include Elijah Fox\, Nate Smith\, Joshua Crumbly\, Marie Dahlstrom\, NAVVY\, and more. Standout singles like “Zodiac\,” “My Everything\,” and “We’ve Come So Far” debuted on his NPR Tiny Desk Concert performance earlier this year. As NPR producer Ashley Pointer stated\, Braxton Cook is ready to take “center stage” with his most dynamic release to date. \nOne can hear Cook breaking through on Not Everyone Can Go\, a mix of jazz and R&B that feels indebted to similar hybrids of yesteryear. Musically\, the album conjures images of bright evening sunshine\, when the temperature begins to cool. Not quite Quiet Storm\, instead\, Not Everyone Can Go dabbles between the margins\, which won’t surprise those who’ve followed Cook to this point. Across albums like Somewhere In Between\, No Doubt\, and Who Are You When No One Is Watching?\, he’s made a career of blurring the lines between genres\, landing on a sound that isn’t one thing\, in particular. While that’s made his music tough to pin down\, that also makes it all the more intriguing. That you can’t label it just R&B or just jazz lends to the music’s attraction. \nLyrically\, Not Everyone Can Go follows the trek of conflict\, from where a romantic relationship faces challenges to when the couple makes it to the other side. The album soundtracks that journey without placing blame on one person or the other. Instead\, Cook assesses his own role in the disconnect\, as if doing the necessary self-work to show up fully for his significant other. The album’s second half incorporates love songs about the rediscovery of affection\, taking sonic cues from late-‘90s R&B\, with its slow\, body-rolling pace and lush electric keys. “The last part of the album is the action for me\,” Cook said. “It’s the act of rebuilding these relationships the way that I want and the way that I see them\, and that’s what those love songs are about. ‘Bad’ is very much about taking my wife back out on a date. As if we were just courting each other all over again.” \nUltimately\, Not Everyone Can Go is about embracing change\, that when seasons arrive where moves are inevitable\, you have to lean into them. “This particular record is a reminder to myself and others to take stock in what it is you have and be grateful for the breath in your lungs.” \nBRAXTON COOK 2026 TOUR DATES\n7/30/26 Portsmouth\, NH Jimmy’s Jazz & Blues Club\n7/31/26 Newport\, RI Newport Jazz Festival\n8/10/26 Appleton\, WI Jazz Coterie – Gibson Music Hall\n8/11/26 Stevens Point\, WI Jazz Coterie – Stevens Point Country Club\n8/12/26 Minneapolis\, MN Dakota\n8/13/26 Omaha\, NE Midtown Crossing – Jazz on the Green\n8/14/26 Evanston\, IL Space\n8/16/26 Ann Arbor\, MI Blue Llama Jazz Club\n8/16/26 Ann Arbor\, MI Blue Llama Jazz Club\n9/17/26 Honolulu\, HI Blue Note Hawaii\n9/17/26 Honolulu\, HI Blue Note Hawaii\n10/1/26 Providence\, RI Uptown Theater*\n10/2/26 Washington D.C. The group will be playing their self-titled debut album live at the McGuire Theater (inside the Walker Art Center). The show is copresented with Liquid Music (one of our favorite music/art series).\n\n\n \n\n\nWe saw Banhart in May 2016 and wrote\, “The Saturday night would also have a similar setup\, Devendra Banhart\, this time with a full electric band\, would open up the show. As described by Banhart\, there were no established setlist for his band and some sets were entirely improvised and some old songs are completely redone in a different direction. Whatever they decided to play\, it was clear that Banhart was absolutely giggly about the whole thing. You can hear it in his voice and his mannerism\, he was extremely excited to perform these songs for us.”\nSocial Share\n Share on Add Us (Opens in new window)\n Add Us\n \n Share on Instagram (Opens in new window)\n Instagram\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n More\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window)\n Mastodon\n \n Share on Telegram (Opens in new window)\n Telegram\n \n Share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window)\n Nextdoor\n Like this:Like Loading…

SUMMARY:Mpls: Castle Rat at Varsity Theater (Oct 14\, 2026)
DESCRIPTION:Castle Rat at Varsity Theater (Oct 14\, 2026)\n\n\nOctober 11\, 2026 Sunday\n Castle Rat\nwith Unto Others\, Wraith Knightat Varsity Theater\nlivenation.com\n\nOne of the hottest bands touring this realm is Castle Rat. They are stopping by the Varsity Theater\, in Minneapolis\, on October 14\, 2026.\n\n\n Castle Rat at the Ship\, Kansas City (September 12\, 2025) \n\n\nWe drove to the Ship\, Kansas City\, on September 12\, 2025 to witness fantasy doom metal: “Headlining was Castle Rat\, delivering a powerful blend of Doom Metal\, fantasy storytelling\, and… sword fighting! Did I mention they’re theatrical? On lead vocals and rhythm guitar is the Rat Queen and all-around renaissance woman herself\, Riley Pinkerton\, backed by a band of fantasy characters: The Count (Franco Vittore\, lead guitar/backing vocals)\, The Plague Doctor (Charley Ruddel\, bass)\, The Druid (Josh Strmic\, drums)\, and the Rat Reapress—not a musician\, but a performer and antagonist to our heroic musicians (Rebecca Corrigan). Nostalgic clean vocals\, Sabbath worthy bass lines\, all the riffs you could want\, gripping guitar solos\, and a maniac of a drummer that I still won’t stop talking about… that’s a recipe for success on its own. Now add in a story line woven through the albums and into the stage show and a call to action for the crowd to assist the band in saving The Realm… the crowd went insane for this band. Castle Rat is out supporting their new album The Bestiary\, a much-anticipated follow-up to their debut Into the Realm (2024). They’re causing quite a stir\, and I highly recommend seeing them in smaller venues while you still can. This show confirmed that it may have been our last chance before they’re playing much larger rooms. If you’re lucky enough to be near a show that hasn’t sold out\, grab a ticket now… and order that new album as well.”\n\nUnto Others and Wraith Knight to open.\n\n\nTour Dates\n\n\n Sep 23 – Baltimore\, MD – Baltimore Soundstage Sep 25 – Charlotte\, NC – Neighborhood Theatre Sep 26 – Atlanta\, GA – The Masquerade Sep 28 – Dallas\, TX – The Studio at The Bomb Factory Sep 30 – Mesa\, AZ – The Nile Theater Oct 1 – Los Angeles\, CA – The Belasco Oct 3 – Berkeley\, CA – The UC Theatre Oct 6 – Portland\, OR – Roseland Theater Oct 7 – Seattle\, WA – The Showbox Market Oct 9 – Spokane\, WA – Knitting Factory Oct 10 – Boise\, ID – Shrine Social Club Oct 11 – Salt Lake City\, UT – The Grand Oct 12 – Denver\, CO – The Ogden Theatre Oct 14 – Minneapolis\, MN – Varsity Theater Oct 15 – Chicago\, IL – Concord Music Hall Oct 16 – Detroit\, MI – The Majestic Theatre Oct 17 – Toronto\, ON – The Opera House Oct 19 – Montreal\, QC – Théâtre Beanfield Oct 20 – Worcester\, MA – The Palladium Oct 21 – New York\, NY – Webster Hall\n\n \nSocial Share\n Share on Add Us (Opens in new window)\n Add Us\n \n Share on Instagram (Opens in new window)\n Instagram\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n More\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window)\n Mastodon\n \n Share on Telegram (Opens in new window)\n Telegram\n \n Share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window)\n Nextdoor\n Like this:Like Loading…

SUMMARY:Jax: Toadies at FIVE (Oct 14\, 2026)
DESCRIPTION:Toadies at FIVE (Oct 14\, 2026)\n\nOctober 14\, 2026 Wednesday\nToadies\nat FIVE\nfivejax.com\n\nToadies is on the last leg of their tour – stopping by FIVE\, in Jacksonville\, Florida\, on October 14\, 2026. The band recently announced the first ever vinyl release of their 2001 album Hell Below/Stars Above. As a recent phonograph convert\, I’m happy to see more music being released on this century-old technology.\n\n\n Toadies at First Avenue 2026-06-02 \n\n\nWe saw Toadies in June 2026 and wrote\, “Toadies took the stage over with the instrumental “Ash’s Theme” (from the new record)\, but Toadies leader Vaden Todd Lewis promised “lots of songs you can sing along to for the rest of the night” — starting with Rubberneck‘s “I Come from the Water”. And while 1994’s alt-rock classics ran shoulder-to-shoulder with new stuff (2026’s Charmer) and fan-service deep cuts (a song from that abandoned 2000 album Feeler\, plus three from the actual 2001 followup Hell Below/Stars Above)\, the eras blurred together\, as they frequently do. Lewis is 60 now\, and the deranged edge he lent to “Possum Kingdom”‘s haunting refrain (“do you want to die?”) is a little lower and more craggy\, but Toadies’ vision of hard-rock-with-dark-themes shines through. We got 10 songs from the new album\, and they sound just as urgent and compelling live as they do on the record. (That’s no coincidence: it was one of the last projects that audio vérité legend Steve Albini recorded before his 2024 death.) The new stuff is plenty weird — there are just as many crooked corners and 7/8 surprises\, but the sophisticated progressions and maturity of the songwriting hide tricks. And there’s old fashioned amplification: “Get Out of Your Head” hit 109 decibels where I was standing\, and caused my hearing protection to glitch on me. “Normal” got a short but earnest introduction\, framing the new album as Lewis’s statement about depression\, self-harm\, and suicide\, urging people to get help. He also assured folks to be less afraid of what treatment and recovery really look like: “I’m here today because I got help\, and I’m still weird as fuck. It’s just that the ‘fuck you’ voice in my head got a little quieter.” They left the stage after “Tyler”\, but you know what it means when\, as the band leaves\, the lights dim\, and the roadies come on stage\, crack open fresh beers\, leaving them by newly tuned guitars. There would be more. ”\n\n\nLocal H and Emily Wolfe to open.\n\nTour Dates\n\nSept 18 Columbia\, MO – The Blue Note =\nSept 19 Indianapolis\, IN – Hi-Fi Annex ^=\nSept 20 Louisville\, KY – Louder Than Life\nSept 21 St. Louis\, MO – The Pageant ^=\nSept 23 Kansas City\, MO – The Truman ^=\nSept 24 Tulsa\, OK – Cain’s Ballroom ^=\nSept 25 Amarillo\, TX – The Lumberyard^=\nSept 26 Santa Fe\, NM – The Bridge^=\nSept 29 Flagstaff\, AZ – Orpheum Theater^=Oct 02 Las Vegas\, NV – Brooklyn Bowl^=\nOct 03 Ventura\, CA – Ventura Theatre^=\nOct 04 Sacramento\, CA – Aftershock\nOct 05 – Menlo Park\, CA – The Guild Theater\nOct 06 Pioneertown\, CA – Pappy & Harriet’s^\nOct 08 Tucson\, AZ – Rialto Theatre^#\nOct 09 El Paso\, TX – Lowbrow Palace^#\nOct 10 – Dallas\, TX – State Fair Of Texas\nOct 14 Jacksonville\, FL – Five^#\nOct 15 Fort Lauderdale\, FL – Revolution Live^#\nOct 16 Orlando\, FL – House of Blues^#\nOct 17 St. Petersburg\, FL – Jannus Live^# \nWith ^ Local H\n=Olive Vox\n#Emily Wolfe\n\n \nSocial Share\n Share on Add Us (Opens in new window)\n Add Us\n \n Share on Instagram (Opens in new window)\n Instagram\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n More\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window)\n Mastodon\n \n Share on Telegram (Opens in new window)\n Telegram\n \n Share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window)\n Nextdoor\n Like this:Like Loading…

SUMMARY:Mpls: Friko at Fine Line (Oct 15\, 2026)
DESCRIPTION:Friko at Fine Line (Oct 15\, 2026)\n \n\nOctober 15\, 2026 Thursday\n Friko\nat Fine Line\nfirst-avenue.com\n\nChicago based band Friko returns to Minnesota\, playing the Fine Line (and upgraded venue from 7th Street Entry)\, on October 15\, 2026.\n\n\n$1 from every ticket sold will go to Santa for a Day\, a certified 501 (c) (3) Public Charity who answers letters to Santa from kids in underserved communities. This two-pronged literacy component is vital to their mission: Volunteers helping\, teaching youngsters the power of the pen… and then donors rewarding their efforts\, by translating their wishes into reality\, This process helps children feel seen\, heard\, and valued—often for the first time—while fostering family dignity and empowerment that extends well beyond the holidays as participants author a different\, more positive narrative about life\, one sparked by optimism and the vision of a brighter future. Founded in 2018\, SFAD has fulfilled more than 50\,000 letters and delivered nearly 100\,000 gifts to children across eight U.S. cities.\n\n \n\n Friko at Fine Line (May 22\, 2025) \n\n\nWe saw Friko in May 2025 and wrote\, “After an intermission that played great music like “Get Innocuous!” by LCD Soundsystem and “Barley” from Water From Your Eyes\, Friko took the stage to The Talking Heads “Once in a Lifetime.” From there was a spine-tingling beginning in which lead singer\, Niko Kapetan\, tried to fit the whole evening into “Guess”. From there\, the band dialed it up even more to where it looked like they were almost assaulting their instruments during “Chemical”. We last saw Friko opening up for Royel Otis at First Ave in Sep\, 2024. We mentioned that they are known for their high-energy live shows\, and I was getting a front row view\, but there were moments when they took a step back and played the sweetest of songs like “For Ella” and “Cardinal”. In a Paste profile on their debut album Where We’ve Been\, Where We Go from Here\, the band noted not only being inspired by the Chicago indie rock scene\, but also influenced by the classical romantic era\, specifically the music of Frederic Chopin. As drummer Bailey Minzenberger stated: “With Chopin’s Nocturnes specifically\, I can’t wrap my head around how something can be so beautiful. There are some bits of it that are so complicated but still really accessible.””\nTour Dates\n\n Sep. 16 – Salt Lake City\, UT @ Kilby CourtSep. 18 – Phoenix\, AZ @ Valley BarSep. 19 – San Diego\, CA @ CasbahSep. 20 – Los Angeles\, CA @ Sid The Cat AuditoriumSep. 21 – San Francisco\, CA @ Rickshaw StopSep. 24 – Portland\, OR @ Polaris HallSep. 25 – Seattle\, WA @ Baba YagaSep. 26 – Vancouver\, BC @ Fox CabaretSep. 30 – Morrison\, CA @ Red RocksOct. 15 – Minneapolis\, MN @ Fine Line (venue upgrade)Oct. 16 – Milwaukee\, WI @ VivariumOct. 17 – Detroit\, MI @ The Loving TouchOct. 19 – Toronto\, ON @ The Great HallOct. 20 – Montreal\, QC @ Bar Le RitzOct. 22 – Boston\, MA @ The SinclairOct. 23 – New York\, NY @ Music Hall Of WilliamsburgOct. 24 – Philadelphia\, PA @ The FoundryOct. 26 – Washington\, DC @ AtlantisOct. 27 – Durham\, NC @ Motorco Music HallOct. 28 – Atlanta\, GA @ Terminal WestOct. 30 – Nashville\, TN @ The Blue RoomOct. 31 – Columbus\, OH @ A&R Music Bar Nov. 20 – Mexico City\, MX @ Corona Capital FestivalDec. 19 – Chicago\, IL @ Salt Shed (w/ Ratboys)\n\n \nSocial Share\n Share on Add Us (Opens in new window)\n Add Us\n \n Share on Instagram (Opens in new window)\n Instagram\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Bluesky (Opens in new window)\n Bluesky\n \n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n More\n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Threads (Opens in new window)\n Threads\n \n Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)\n WhatsApp\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Mastodon (Opens in new window)\n Mastodon\n \n Share on Telegram (Opens in new window)\n Telegram\n \n Share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window)\n Nextdoor\n Like this:Like Loading…
