The popular Of Monsters and Men returns to Minnesota, selling out Friday night and quickly adding an additional date at the Palace Theatre, in St Paul.
We saw them when they just had one album, at the Fine Line in 2012 and said, “Of Monsters and Men sounded so happy to be here in America. They mentioned how they did the tourist-thing, seeing the Mall of America. There are also a lot of them on stage; I think I counted seven of them. Many of their songs contain “hey! hey!” and yes, it’s catchy. Since the band only has one album, My Head Is an Animal, most of the songs on the setlist were from that album. They did throw in The Cure’s “Close to Me” cover, which in typical Of Monsters and Men had a massive build up at the end. Not on the setlist is “Sloom”, which was an encore song squeezed in between “Your Bones” and “Lakehouse”.”

Arny Margret to open. We last saw her at the Palace Theatre in July 2025 and said, “She may never be an extremely gregarious sort on stage, but the poise and a sense that she knew she belonged on that stage was a palpable step up from March. And these songs deserve that strength as they are really quite beautiful. Margret is a voice worth seeking out and her music exudes a depth that belies her youth. The reaction from the crowd was genuine and positive and although in a little different direction from the headliner, I think it was close enough to speak to the crowd. She ended with an efficient set of just over thirty minutes. Having seen both her Minnesota shows, I’ll be on the watch for her next performance and how she continues to develop. I found out after the show that Margret had a fever and had left immediately after the show, which is quite impressive given how well she did. Get better quickly!”
