Indie pop band Japanese Breakfast (aka Michelle Zauner) is back in the Twin Cities, playing the Palace Theatre, in St Paul, on September 9, 2025. Their latest album For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women) is available now on Dead Oceans. Last year we saw Japanese Breakfast play their biggest venue yet: the Armory!
We saw Japanese Breakfast in July 2022 and wrote, “If you caught the Japanese Breakfast show at First Avenue in September, it’s almost the same show, down to the Little Big League song, “Boyish”, and same encore songs (“Posing for Cars” and “Diving Woman”). Most of the changes in the new song were to drop songs like “In Heaven” and “The Woman That Loves You”, and adding new songs – mostly on the second half of the set: “The Body Is a Blade” to “Slide Tackle”. Still, for the audience, they were still very excited to see Japanese Breakfast again, and always big cheers whenever the gong is used (“Paprika”).”
