The 2001 drama film Gypsy 83, written and directed by Todd Stephens, has a new 25th Anniversary Cut, billed as Gypsy 83: The Director’s Cut. The film was been completely reimagined and restored in 4K from the 35mm camera negative.
Music fans will want to check out X’s John Doe and the 80s soundtrack featuring The Cure, Cocteau Twins, and Echo and the Bunnymen.
Personally speaking, I did rent the film from Hollywood Video a long time ago. I don’t remember much of the film, it’s about this goth girl on a road trip with her friend.
Synopsis
Gypsy (Sara Rue), a 20-something outcast living in small-town Ohio, has long believed that her mother chose her dream of becoming a singer over her own family. One day, her friend Clive (Kett Turton), a fellow goth, reads about a tribute event dedicated to Gypsy’s personal hero, Stevie Nicks, which is scheduled to take place in New York City. They hit the road in hopes of performing for the show, thereby getting their foot in the door of the city’s music scene, but there are bumps along the way.
