Mpls: Cornbread Harris at Crooners Main Stage Showroom (Sep 2, 2026)

Fresh off of being inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame, the unstoppable 99-year-old blues musician Cornbread Harris and Friends will record a new live album over two performances at Crooners Main Stage Showroom Wednesday, September 2, 2026, and Wednesday, October 7, 2026. Recordings from those performances will be combined to make Cornbread 99.

Cornbread 99 will be released on CD and LP by Slingshot Annie Records, a label helmed by Cornbread’s biographer, Andrea Swensson, whose book, Deeper Blues: The Life, Songs, and Salvation of Cornbread Harris, was critically acclaimed. The project will be co-produced with Cornbread’s saxophonist, Steve Clarke.

“This has the potential to be his best recording,” Clarke says. The live album will focus on Cornbread’s original compositions, some of which have been part of his sets for over 40 years. “The Cornbread Song,” “Cool Rider,” “Put the World Back Together,” “Deeper Blues,” “Never Ending Love Song,” “Candy Man” and the perfect theme song for the indefatigable 99-year-old artist, “Ain’t No Stopping Me Now.”

“These are the songs he composed during his career, during his lifetime. This is his legacy,” Clarke adds. “It’s the legacy that he gives to the Minneapolis music scene, the Minneapolis Sound, the people of Minneapolis, and to his son, Jimmy Jam.”
