Handy, aka LUCY, has spent more than a decade carving out a singular space in underground American music, moving freely between Southern rap influences, lo-fi rock, electronic pop, and homespun songwriting. Today, LUCY announces his forthcoming album CITIZEN’S ARREST. With the album, LUCY continues his genre-fluid approach, distilling decades of American music into a strange, melodic world of mushy 808s, clanking percussion, and soft-pop piano. In addition to the announcement, Handy shares the first single “COURTSIDE” which captures him at his most direct, pairing his skewed New England perspective with sharp diaristic writing. A restless creativity extends across Handy’s many projects, including Taxidermists, the lo-fi rock duo he formed with childhood friend Salvadore McNamara; Safe Mind, his electronic pop collaboration with Boy Harsher’s Gus Muller; and Club Casualties, his rave-adjacent project with producer Ghost. He has also collaborated with artists across rap and electronic music, including acclaimed producer Evilgiane. Handy maintains a fiercely DIY practice that has taken him from major stages alongside Yung Lean and The Lemonheads, to barns, boats, garages, and basements. His long list of collaborators deepens with Bassvictim’s Maria Manow, who is featured on track 4 of the album: “100 MILES.” With CITIZEN’S ARREST, LUCY continues to establish himself as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary underground pop.
Following the release of the album, LUCY will embark on a North America tour this fall. Beginning October 21 in Washington DC, the run will take LUCY across the US and Canada before a final homecoming show at the Rockwell in Boston on December 6.
