The Paper Kites returns to Minneapolis, playing First Avenue, on May 15, 2026.

We saw Paper Kites in July 2016 and said, “The Paper Kites (Sam Bentley, Christina Lacy, Dave Powys, Sam Rasmussen, and Josh Bentley) said they love, love playing Minneapolis. Their fanbase here is incredible, and they just love the audience (which were mostly young college-bound or college students). There is something hopelessly romantic about the Paper Kites’ songs that speaks to their fans. In fact, singer Sam Bentley said that they filmed two music videos in Minneapolis, which would make them “practically Minnesotans”. They had enough songs to make for a full set from their two albums States and twelvefour, and that meant no cover songs. They took out the banjo to play two songs, starting with ‘Bloom’, followed by ‘St Clarity’, both songs were incredibly well-received. Prior to playing ‘A Silent Cause’, Bentley told this story about how he got really sick at the Winnipeg Folk Festival (which just took place July 7-10, 2016), and during their 40-min to their hotel, he threw up in his backpack!”
