Weekend weather is looking sunny and triple-digit hot!

Welcome to a normal late July in the heartland, and there’s no rain expected, but there are a handful of shows below, to keep one busy. A couple of quick area music/culture notes too-

Yo-Yo Ma is confirmed to be headlining Kansas City Symphony’s 2026/2027 season, appearing Sept 30, with tickets already on sale and the annual 816 Day that takes place at P&L District and 18^th and Vine, has expanded into a weekend, August 15 and 16, with more details and schedule, to be announced closer-to-date.

Let’s look at the upcoming weekend in Kansas City / Lawrence KS metro musical happenings from July 24^th to July 27^th.

FRIDAY JULY 24

Sarah McLachlan w Allison Russell, July 24, Starlight,$39-$122

Three-time Grammy Award winning icon Sarah McLachlan is back out on the 2026 extension of her Better Broken Tour, in support of her acclaimed tenth studio album of the same name, released last September via Concord Records. The tour concludes with two nights on August 8 and 9 in Woodinville, WA but makes a live return to Starlight, where we saw her last, in 2024 during her return to live touring.

Arrive early for Grammy-winning Montreal-born and Nashville-based musician, poet and actor Allison Russell. She is the co-founder of Once and Future Sounds and Love Rising. Her debut solo album Outside Child was released in 2021, followed by The Returner in 2023, and the latest is In The Hour of Chaos, via Concord/Fantasy Records.

Feeble Little Horse, July 24, Bottleneck- Lawrence,$33.34

Feeble Little Horse is a Pittsburgh indie rock and noise pop band formed in 2021, known for mixing sweet vocal melodies with shoegaze and blasts of distorted guitar noise, the group emerged from the local DIY basement scene.

Their 2026 tour supports their surprise-released third studio album, bitknot, via Saddle Creek.

SATURDAY JULY 25

Jason Aldean, July 25, Morton Amph, $77-$289

The Grammy Award-nominated entertainer, who recently celebrated his 32nd career No. 1 single at country radio, Jason Aldean brings his Songs About Us Tour 2026 to KC and features opening acts Chase Matthew, Mackenzie Carpenter, and Dee Jay Silver.

His latest acclaimed studio album, Songs About Us, was released in April and the 20-track collection showcases the Georgia native’s signature sound, a full twenty years since the release of his debut album. In 2005, Aldean’s breakthrough single “Hicktown” also earned the Georgia native his first ACM Award nomination for Song of the Year with “Amarillo Sky.” Aldean’s next single from his new album, “Anytime Soon” will hit Country radio on August 3.

Rx Ghost w/ Douglas and Toasterbath, July 25, Replay-Lawrence, $3-$5

Headliner Douglas (uh, not the greatest band name in terms of internet searches) is an indie-alternative rock band based out of the OKC and Tulsa areas. Formed in 2023, they play a hybrid “yardgaze” style blending indie rock, shoegaze, and western/folk influences.

RxGhost is a KC-based alternative rock, shoegaze, and post-rock band founded by frontman Josh Thomas (formerly of Spidermums and High Diving Ponies) as a creative rebirth following recovery from addiction. The band describes its unique genre-fluid style as “danger pop”—hook-driven pop structures wrapped in walls of noise, ethereal shoegaze textures, and post-punk tension.

Rainbow Kitten Surprise, July 27, Starlight, 5 for $129 combo- $110.75

Rainbow Kitten Surprise (often abbreviated as RKS) is an alternative rock band from Boone, NC which formed in 2013. The group is widely celebrated for their emotionally raw songwriting, eclectic musical style that blends indie, folk, and pop. Currently on their bones Tour, this supports the band’s fifth studio album and recent track, “It’s Called: Freefall.”

The band has partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 per ticket goes to the Rainbow Kitten Surprise Fund, dedicated to building a more just and compassionate world by uplifting marginalized communities, expanding access to vital resources, and delivering critical support in times of need.

54 Ultra, July 27, Truman,$34.50

54 Ultra announces a new run of tour dates, including stops in Dublin, London, Berlin, Madrid, and Barcelona alongside appearances at major summer festivals including Lollapalooza and Sea.Hear.Now, so this Truman show is truly an intimate date that shouldn’t be missed.

In April, he made his Coachella debut and released his double single “Turnaround” and B-side, “I’m Hooked,” and is now signed to Interscope Records.

Rising out of NJ, 54 Ultra is the musical project of songwriter and producer JohnAnthony Rodriguez. His sonic fusion is indebted to his Puerto Rican and Dominican roots, weaving synthy indie rock with Latin soul. Last May, he released his debut EP, First Works, which laid the groundwork for his sold-out fall tour leg and resulting singles, “I Won’t Go” and “Find Your Love.”
