As I've previously written about The Rentals, the band has a habit of breaking up:
breaking up in 1996, then again breaking up in 2002.
I also noted that The Rentals reformed once again in 2006 to "record that difficult third album". That third album, I guess is finally coming out in 2014.
The new record will feature Matt Sharp (of course) and Jess Wolfe & Holly Laessig, Ryen Slegr, Lauren Chipman and Patrick Carney.
The record is currently being mixed by D. Sardy (LCD Soundsystem, Jay-Z.)
The news broke when Matt Sharp, on his Twitter page, announced, "I am beyond thrilled to announce @therentals have just signed with my favorite record label @polyvinyl."
Stay tuned additional news and details in 2014. I am pretty sure they will get the band back together and go on tour next year.
Aw but no Maya Rudolph or Haden triplets…
What the what? What year is it, 1998?
