The Smiths

“This Charming Man” was not the Smiths’ first single, but it certainly the most popular of all the Smiths’ songs. The single first came out October 31st, 1983, so last month the single officially turned 30 years old. …

The Sweet and Tender Hooligans just played at the House of Blues in Anaheim, California.

If you’re a Morrissey/Smiths fan, then chances are, you’ve seen (or at least have heard of) The Sweet and Tender Hooligans. Even Morrissey’s heard of them, jokingly introduced himself as “We are the Sweet and Tender Hooligans!” at a Los Angeles show. Morrissey, you are too wild!

So, The Sweet and Tender Hooligans are basically a Smiths and Morrissey cover band. They’re lead by Jose “The Mexican Morrissey” Maldonado, and it made sense that they’ve recorded some of the Smiths songs in Spanish. I’ve mentioned this a few times in podcasts, but Morrissey has a massive Mexican fanbase, it’s absolutely unbelievable!

I’ve seen The Sweet and Tender Hooligans at The Smiths convention in 1997… which is a long time ago. If I have time, maybe I’ll dig out some artifacts from that time period to do a little flashback article.

The Sweet and Tender Hooligans’ next show will be at the Casbah in San Diego, California. Etc etc etc etc.
