FIRST AVENUE

Jenny Lewis w/ The Apache Relay

Both Tori Amos at the O’Shaughnessy and Broken Bells at the State Theatre ticket costs about $40 each… if that’s out of your price range, come check out The Apache Relay and Jenny Lewis at First Avenue on August 3rd.

Since many of you may know Lewis’ name as actress (various film & television roles) and singer of Rilo Kiley and Jenny & Johnny, you may not know opener The Apache Relay.

The Apache Relay are based out of Nashville, and they will be playing tracks from their new self-titled album, which is out now via So Recordings.

I got a chance to hear their single, “Katie Queen of Tennessee” and it sounded great! You will find yourself humming to the melodies.

PHOX’s single, “Kingfisher”, was made iTunes Singles of the Week for the week of July 8th, which made the band quite happy. MILL CITY NIGHTS

OMG Music Fest

OMG Music Fest is described as “a concert where many talented artists join together to perform and to share their passion for music with young people around the country.”

Being an old person, I don’t honestly know any of these young artist. I suspect they are all YouTube stars … which is a legitimate thing.

I have been to an Owl City show and a Selena Gomez show, and I can tell you to expect a lot of screaming girls. They are really loud, and they are really passionate about their favorite singer….. Already the platinum tickets are sold out.

The OMG Summer Tour will feature the following:

Jacob Whitesides

Lisa McQueen*
MacDemy

Round2Crew
Alyssa Shouse
Dylan Holland
Grant Landis
Reed Deming
Tristan Blaine
Tyler Matl.

* Note that McQueen is otherwise known as Austin Mahone’s “Aunt Lisa.”

7TH STREET ENTRY

Paul Michell

We saw Paul Michell two years ago at the 400 Bar. I described him as a local young singer/songwriter who played his entire EP Wake Me Up live.

The show is described as:

This show is different than anything I’ve ever done: I’ll be backed up by a stellar band: Nate Babbs, Scott Berman, Kelsey Bitney, Benjamin James Kelly, Nikki Ruta and Dave Sandersfeld.

My special guests to open the night:

KAREN AND IVY of WARSAW CIPHER

Echo & The Bunnymen

My biggest complaint was the opening bicycling riding sequence which dropped the original “The Killing Moon” by Echo and the Bunnymen, in favor of INXS’s “Never Tear Us Apart” song. …

SATURDAY, AUGUST 9

FIRST AVENUE

Echo & The Bunnymen

I do love Echo & The Bunnymen, but not a massive fan, but I witness their breakup via Melody Maker and NME. When lead singer Ian McCulloch left the band to pursue a solo career, the band recruited a new singer Noel Burke, but ultimately the band split in 1993.

Original member Ian McCulloch and Will Sergeant had reunited in the late 90s and subsequently been releasing albums under the moniker Echo & The Bunnymen. Their latest album Meteorites came out June 3rd, 2014, via 429 Records.

Like tours for these new albums, expect them to work the new record, but throwing in fan favorites like “Killing Moon” and “Seven Seas.”
