CABOOZE

Chicago Afrobeat Project

We last mentioned Chicago Afrobeat Project on the bill for the Cedar’s African Summer in 2013.

The 8-piece group’s biggest influence is obviously Fela Kuti, one of the pioneer of Afrobeat. So they were really happy to get drummer Tony Allen (Fela Kuti’s drummer for the first 15 years) to play for them… expecting to record a full album set for 2015.

Obviously the name Tony Allen means something, as they’ve bolded his name on the forefront of their tour poster to read: The Chicago Afrobeat Project, featuring Tony Allen.

It would seem that the Chicago-based project is kicking off their US tour with Minneapolis.
