FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 19

STATE THEATRE

Spoon w/ EMA

I have been looking forward to this Spoon with EMA show for a while now. I normally don’t clear out my calendar that far in advance, but when I heard this lineup, I knew I couldn’t miss this show.

Spoon was just here in Minneapolis for Rock the Garden, but this time around, they’ll be playing tracks from their latest album They Want My Soul (Loma Vista/Republic).

Show up early and catch Erika M Anderson, aka EMA, where she’ll be playing some tracks from her latest
The Future’s Void
(Matador Records).

I previously mentioned that EMA became a household name when Rolling Stones called her “Artist to Watch” for her sophomore album Past Life Martyred Saints, so hopefully we can hear some of those tracks as well.

NOTE: Like all State, Orpheum, or Pantages shows, these starts on time, meaning you have to be at the venue at the time listed (which is 7:30pm sharp). Personally, I like to show up at least 20 minutes before the set time.

Tour dates:

09/16/14 Chicago, IL Chicago Theatre

09/17/14 Milwaukee, WI Riverside Theatre

09/18/14 Madison, WI Orpheum Theater

Festival Palomino

This may be a running joke at W♥M, but this will be the fourth we’ve missed Sir Sly. Earlier this year, we tried to catch the Los Angeles-based trio at First Avenue, but due to communication mix-up at the venue door, we could not get in on time to see the band.
As usual, we are overbooked for this Saturday, and will be regrettable missing Sir Sly once again…

This Saturday is the big, long drive to Canterbury Park in Shakopee to see Festival Palomino.

If you listen to our podcast, we’ve actually been talking about this Festival Palomino for quite a while. We mentioned that this is the first of its kind, curated and organized by Duluth band Trampled by Turtles.
