Deerhoof

It’s hard to believe that Deerhoof has been around for eighteen years. Although their music changed and evolved over time, due to adding and losing band members…

DEERHOOF

I caught Deerhoof in 2012 and noted how fun it was to see the band in person. I also wrote that it was unbelievable how long the band have been around (now in their 20th year as a band).

Deerhoof’s 13th album La Isla Bonita was their most commercially accessible record to date, coming in at #3 on the CMJ Top 200 Chart, and #5 in the Billboard Top Vinyl Albums.

Philadelphia’s Seagulls (not to be confused with Flock of Seagulls or Atlanta’s Seagulls) will be releasing their debut album Great Pine, due out February 3rd, 2015.

The record is described as “boardwalk brooding and glitchy 8-bit textures coexist among an expansive sandbar of nostalgia”…. so a Nintendo with sand?

Seagulls’ upcoming concert is taking place January 30th, 2015 in Philadelphia at Bourbon and Branch.

RADIO BIRDS

Speaking of Atlanta, Radio Birds will be releasing Contemporary American Slang on February 3, 2015, via Brash Music.

Formed in Atlanta, GA, in 2013, the band have gone through some changes… With Contemporary American Slang, Radio Bird feature a new lineup where everybody in the band sings.

Recorded at the world-famous Southern Tracks studio, featuring an impressively diverse set of songs and even additional instrumentation by Will Turpin (Collective Soul) and Mark O’Connor.

New York’s Lyon Hart (not to be confused with Lionheart) has a debut single called “The Sign”.

The song is hot on the heels of his Elephante’s song “Shake the Earth”, featuring Lyon Hart. You know what they say, he never forgets…

SINCERELY, GRIZZLY

gunfever.com.au

Adelaide’s “literature rock” trio Sincerely, Grizzly recently released their debut album called Halves… and apparently big fans of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire.

The record was recorded over two years in Melbourne by Jez Giddings at Hot House, mixed in part by the former and in part by Brad Wood (Smashing Pumpkins, Touche Amore, mewithoutYou) at Seagrass Studios in California and mastered by Tony Mantz at Deluxe Mastering back in Melbourne.

TIGERCUB

tigercubtigercub.co.uk

Brighton’s grunge-pop trio Tigercub just released their new single “Centrefold” on December 1st, via Blood Red Shoes own label Jazz Life.

After touring the UK with Royal Blood and being named as Zane Lowe’s “Next Hype” on Radio 1, as well as winning accolades from NME, The Times and Clash Magazine… so expect them to be a household name in 2015.

The single launch record show is taking place in London on December 6 at The Stillery.
