EZTV

New York’s trio EZTV (not the Pirate EZTV or media company EZTV) will be headlining the 7th Street Entry this Friday, October 10th in support of their new record High in Place.
Fort Wilson Riot

Our favorite Minneapolis duo were recently mentioned in talking with Brody; he revealed that he was seeing Ft Wilson Riot in New Orleans. It looks like the band is still in the Georgia area:
.…
Sleeping Jesus

Winona’s Sleeping Jesus started the show. Thankfully, it wasn’t religious music, as the “Alaskan Farmer” band’s name might imply. The band is led by singer/songwriter Nick Elstad

EZTV stopped by the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis on Friday night, October 7th.

Winona’s Sleeping Jesus opened up the show, playing tracks from their Perennial EP… however the five-piece (Nick Elstad on vocals/guitarist, Tyler on drums, Christopher on guitarist, Leah on keys, and Ross on bass) played a new song near the end of their 40-min set.

“All the way from Uptown, Minnesota” Pornonono was up next, playing a “RnB future-myth” dance music. I actually recognize Amy Hager and Jacob Mullis from Fort Wilson Riot… and, as it stands, as we previously written, “Minneapolis is swarming with incestuous (creative) relationships.”

Brooklyn’s EZTV said it best on Friday night, “You guys got some options tonight, but thank you for coming to our show.” The four-piece (singer/guitarist Ezra Tenenbaum, drummer Michael Stasiak, bassist Shane O’Connell, and additional live guitarist Christian Peslak) was referring to several shows in the city, including Rachael Yamagata at Triple Rock Social Club, Caroline Smith at O’Shaughnessy, Glass Animals at Myth Nightclub, Luisa Maita at the Cedar Cultural Center, and, of course, right next door, Dinosaur Jr at First Avenue. As usual, there are plenty of choices in this year’s Rocktober in Minneapolis.

Singer Ezra Tenenbaum, relating to Dinosaur Jr., said one of his bird band featured frontman J Mascis’s dog walker. We’re not entirely sure if he was joking or not (we think he’s being serious).

The first time EZTV was in town, it was on Super Bowl Sunday (with Martin Courtney of Real Estate), and said they had a great time with the good turnout (despite the harsh Minneapolis winter). When questioned about his memory (“Who played?”) Shane O’Connell said, “The Vikings, right?”

As you can see from their setlist, the first half is from their debut Calling Out, with the latter half featuring mostly High in Place. Rounding out the rest of their set was a Big Star cover ‘When My Baby’s Beside Me’, which they jokingly said was a Cheap Trick song. The cover was special in a few ways, as this was the first time they played it after “chickening out” playing it a few nights earlier.

‘Goodbye Morning’ was touted as their saddest song they’ve ever written. Then they said how devastated they were when they heard (could not make out the name) a podcast was canceled.

After their set finale ‘Racing Country’ was played, drummer Michael Stasiak announced, “See you next Super Bowl Sunday!”
