Dent May

Dent May knows he sorta-kinda-maybe sounds like Jens Lekman, thank you very much. He also gets the Stephen Merritt reference, and although the mild-mannered Mississippi native is flattered by the association,

Suzie

And also local artist Suzie, aka Mark Ritsema, with his new album Born Single.
Tour Dates
10/04 – Minneapolis, MN @ 7th Street
….

Dent May headlined the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis last night (01 September 2017).

Two local bands were special guests at the show. Darkwave band Devata Daun (aka Nikki Pfeifer) was first, playing some tracks from her album Look (Pytch Records).

This was followed by the crowd’s favorite of the night, Suzie, a rather large group (seven band members, as seen on stage, led singer/guitarist Mark Ritsema). They’ve built up quite a good local fanbase, and their fans were dancing throughout their 45-min set. We first mentioned this band in 2014, but we should probably keep a closer eye on this local band going forward.

Speaking of local support, joining Los Angeles, by the way of Mississippi, Dent May on stage were two ex-locals Rupert Angeleyes and Joey Joey Michaels. Apparently Rupert and Joey Joey have relocated to Los Angeles as housemates, and met up with Dent May, who was in need of a touring band for his new record Across the Multiverse (Carpark Records).

The new album was written and recorded in L.A.’s Highland Park neighborhood, with Dent May producing and playing nearly every instrument himself. The songs were inspired by late night DJing at his local club, and so Across the Multiverse comes across as a very funky, groovy, and synthy record.

As you can see from the setlist, the new tour is Across the Multiverse-heavy, playing most of the songs, including ending their set with the title track ‘Across The Multiverse’. The recorded song actually features Frankie Cosmos as a weird duet “across space and time”.

Check out Dent May on this Summer tour. Across the Multiverse is out now on Carpark Records.
