Matt Costa

This record, in my opinion, was an evolution of Matt Costa’s music and songwriting. After a five-year break, Costa came back with Santa Rosa Fang on Dangerbird Records.

TENNIS

+ Matt Costa

Cedar Cultural Center

Fri 11/02/2018 (7pm/$20)

thecedar.org

What a great pairing: Tennis with Matt Costa at the Cedar on November 2nd.

We caught Tennis in Mar 2017, after a year away from the music scene. The hiatus was good for them, as we mentioned, “Now, feeling fresh and with new songs from Yours Conditionally, the band seemed rather excited to be back on the road. Judging from the attendance and fan support, singer Alaina Moore seemed really happy that people hadn’t forgotten about them.”

One of the best songwriters today, Matt Costa is the special guest on this upcoming November tour.
Costa’s fifth full-length album—and first in five years— Santa Rosa Fangs is out now on Dangerbird Records. We caught him in May 2018 and said, “Matt Costa came on stage, sporting a mustache, just started playing, almost eager and happy to end their long East Coast tour. If you didn’t know, Costa is one of the best modern songwriter, as demonstrated on his debut record Songs We Sing. His song, “Mr Pitiful”, singlehandedly rocketed Costa to superstardom, thanks to being featured in I Love You, Man and various films and Apple iPhone commercials.”

    .

    Additional details from Mike Nicola:

I put out a vinyl album this year with Rock Tumbler Records of Austin, TX. It's called "A Line Cook's Guide to New Satanic Empires" (pictured above in the disturbing living color of Steve Griffin's painting that adorns the cover) It was recorded in Austin with members of Wannabes, Grand Champeen, and A Giant Dog among many other rad people. It is, or soon to be, in your neighborhood Twin Cities record store. Also available online at mikenicolai.com

I am in the Twin Cities these days and living in St. Paul… My friends who are in the brilliant Minneapolis band Rank Strangers have graciously agreed to back me on a handful of shows this fall/winter. This is the first of these shows. Barely Brothers Records on Raymond Avenue in St. Paul. We're going to do a short set of songs from the record and a few other tunes.

Summoning spirits of romance and understanding in their 2pm set will be our openers Country Mike (Mike Suade / Mike Crabtree) and we are blessed mightily to have them. Come on out to this FREE afternoon rock show, have a beer with us, maybe pick up a record or two.
