The Get Up Kids

The Get Up Kids haven’t been around for a few years, but they are NOT forgotten, as evident by the nice turnout for the band on a hot Sunday evening at the Triple Rock Social Club. And you know what that means: three bands for triple the rock. . …
THE GET UP KIDS

thegetupkids.com

Just a quick note to say that The Get Up Kids is returning to the Twin Cities… playing the Turf Club, in St Paul, on October 3rd.

As far as I know, the band doesn’t have a new album, but their breakout album Something To Write About got a “Deluxe” reissue recently. The band also appeared on Episode 3 of Vagrant Records: 25 Years on the Streets, which was a 2-episode deep-dive into the history of acclaimed band.

Their last album, Problems, came out in 2019… their first full-length album in eight years! The Record examined everything from life-changing loss to loneliness of… being lonely.

The band have survived throughout the years, thanks to their devoted fan… who they interact with on their Patreon. The band will record new songs, cover songs, and whatever they want, for their most diehard fans.

220 KID

soundcloud.com/220kid

BRIT nominated, number one charting artist, producer, and 220 Kid (pronounced “two twenty kid”) recently teamed up with LANY, for their collaborative single “Stupid Feelings”. The single is available from Astralwerks.

Apparently 220 Kid and LANY’s frontman Paul Klein are close friends and wanted to team up to bring both their style to both their fanbase.

Speaking of the single 220 KID said “working with artists I love and admire is what makes producing music so special, teaming up with LANY on this track has been a dream from start to finish and I can’t wait to share it with everyone. Paul and I are similar in so many ways, be it through our humor or approach to making music which made the process even more fun. I can’t wait to play this one at Reading and Leeds in August.”

We last saw LANY in Nov 2016 and said, “I stumbled into a show about a year and a half ago (at the 7th Street Entry in July 2015). It was opened up by this band called LANY. I had never heard of them before that night but, after seeing them live, I just couldn’t get them out of my head.”

MIRACULOUS LOVE KIDS

miraculouslovekids.org

Afghanistan’s The Miraculous Love Kids, a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization established by musicianLanny Cordola, is pleading the world for assistance.

The following statement details the group’s dire situation and a plea for help:

“Today our lives are in great danger as the success we achieved in becoming part of Afghanistan’s cultural scene has now marked us for persecution and even death by the Taliban.

What began in 2015 with three girls has grown to nearly 200 students learning music as well as basic reading, math and life skills — all funded entirely by grassroots donations.

We have recorded music with BRIAN WILSON of the BEACH BOYS, TOM MORELLO of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, SAMMY HAGAR, NICK CAVE, BLAKE SHELTON, and many others.

We have appeared on Afghanistan’s most popular TV shows and performed publicly before the country’s First Lady.

ABC, THE BBC, ROLLING STONE and other media outlets have shared our story with the world.

Now, with the Taliban’s rapid takeover of Kabul, we are literally in hiding, with our most senior students in particular danger. Our school is closed, and many of the people who were supposed to protect us now see us as a bargaining chip to gain favor or even a bounty from the Taliban. As girls playing Western music with our American male teacher LANNY CORDOLA, we could not be at greater risk.

We appeal to the international community, to diplomats, politicians, news media, and NGOs working to evacuate civilians under threat, to please find a way to get as many of us on planes leaving Afghanistan to safety. Time is imperative as the airlift is scheduled to end, which would leave us here without hope.

If you have any contacts with military or security personnel who are helping to arrange safe passage to the airport and seats on planes, please contact LANNY CORDOLA, who is currently in Islamabad, Pakistan. He can be reached 24 hours a day by telephone at +1-562-209-3769 and email at lcordola19@gmail.com.

We pray that the international community will not abandon us to a fate that will almost surely be death.”
