Word has come out that fifty-year old Taylor Hawkins, drummer for the Foo Fighters, has died.
Details are still developing, but the band was in the midst of a South American festival tour, scheduled to play Bogota, Colombia just before the news broke.
The band confirmed this in an official statement, also noting “his musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever.”
Foo Fighters’ next scheduled US show is at the end of next month in Memphis and the band had embarked on a pandemic-delayed 25th Anniversary Tour, to play numerous countries through the end of the year.
Before joining the band in 1997, Taylor Hawkins was the touring drummer for Sass Jordan and Alanis Morissette, and also drummer in the prog/experimental band Sylvia. In 2004, Hawkins formed his own side project, Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders, in which he also sang, beginning on their 2006 debut album.
When the Foos were not touring, Hawkins played in a three-piece cover band, Chevy Metal, that played deep cuts from the likes of ZZ Top, Aerosmith, Deep Purple, Van Halen, Queen, and Black Sabbath.
He leaves behind his wife, three children, and millions of fans.
