I grew up in the Fresno-area of California, and have always had a soft spot for then-Stockton band Pavement. I previously mentioned that I saw Pavement in Cadillac Club in Fresno, California, on 09/16/1994, “I distinctively remember this show because Pavement’s drummer Bob Nastanovich stood outside the venue, shaking our hands as we stepped into the tiny club. Obviously, I don’t remember any songs they played since it was 20 years ago (although I’m pretty sure they played “Cut Your Hair”, since the band was riding high on this hit around this time), but according to bootleggers online, they noted that this show featured an improved version of Silver Jews’ “Federal Dust”.”
I still own all the Pavement albums of yesteryears and recently re-visited some of their popular songs. Man, how amazing is that “Range Life” song? I sure hope they play this live (but not the strange “live version” which had weird/updated lyrics). After hearing that song, along with “Shady Lane” and “Stereo”, and so on, all these songs still holds up in 2022. Perhaps not “Cut Your Hair”, which, ironically, is their most commercial song.
I am so pumped for this 2022 reunion tour! It’s been nearly 30 years for me, and I just cannot wait to see the boys on stage again.

09/21/2022 WednesdayStella Donnelly
with Maria BC
at Fine Line
first-avenue.com
Stella Donnelly is back on tour in support of her new album Flood (Secretly Canadian).
We caught the singer in March 2019 and said, “For the first time, Donnelly was pleased to have brought her live band with her on tour (so this was the band’s first time in the city). The full band consists of bassist Jennifer Aslett, drummer Talya Valenti, guitarist George Foster, and producer Dean Tuza. The second part of the show was much louder and, I felt, a much better representation of Donnelly’s music, as heard on her album, Beware of Dogs.”

at Surly Brewing Festival Field
first-avenue.com
8x GRAMMY® Award-nominated rock band Death Cab for Cutie is headlining Surly Brewing Festival Field this September 23rd.
Say what you will about their silly name, but their name is so memorable. Of all the bands I saw in Minneapolis in the early 2000, this band’s name stood out, so I remember seeing them at the 7th Street Entry for $7.
