Local college radio station Radio K is putting together a series of shows in January 2023, describing these bookings as “A love letter to you and all the artists that have supported Radio K over the past years. This year we thank you by hosting some of the most talented performers in Minnesota.”

Kicking off their first week on January 9th, will be Pit Stop, Gut Czech, and Buffalo Galaxy.

We like Pit Stop, having randomly seen them open for Parquet Courts in March 2022: “Opening the show with a brief 30-min set was local country, Americana group Pit Stop. One of the songs they played was called “Good at Being Alone”, which singer and guitarist Sarah Mevissen said that she cried when songwriter, singer, guitarist Jake Balistrieri first sent her the song.”

Minneapolis’ Filthy Kittens have booked their album release show for their debut Trouble in Mayberry, this January 11th.

The band is very new, only formed in March (of this year), but each band members have been involved in various other projects outside of Filthy Kittens.

Their first single, “Mr. Tambourine Man” came out in October 2022. Yes, the song is a cover of the Bob Dylan’s classic. As a cover lover, I approved.

she’s green, lily blue, and shrimp olympics to open.

Filthy Kittens band members:

Henry James Patterson
Mitchell Nelson

Desmond Lawrence
Isaac Gadient
Irene Manning
Elijah Herchert

If your band is coming to the Minneapolis/St Paul area, please email details to vu@weheartmusic.com with a good lead time. Thank you.

The second annual Yellow Ostrich’s “Winter Shindig” is kicking off January 12th with Poolboy and LAMAR.

The series of shows will take place every Thursday in January (starting on the 12th).

Here’s how Yellow Ostrich described the event:

Here we gooooo — the annual YO Winter Shindig returns, this time at Icehouse mpls. The last three Thursdays in January. A different YO set each night, with changing lineups, special guests, yada yada.

AND I’m very excited about the lineup this year, featuring Lamar, Poolboy, Lupin, Trash Date, and Brunett

Last year was such a big success* that I couldn’t NOT do it again, I think this will be a very fun time at a reasonable hour and you don’t have anything else to do so come on down.

*yes it was completely cancelled due to COVID but success looks different to some people

We saw Yellow Ostrich at Pianos, in New York, in Feb 2014 and wrote, “I listened to Yellow Ostrich’s music the day before the show and knew immediately that I wanted to see them live. They have a lo-fi indie rock sound with vocals from Alex Schaaf (also member of The Chairs) whose voice is a mixture of fun.’s Nate Ruess and Ben Folds. Other band members include talented musicians: Jared Van Fleet (guitar/keyboard), Zach Rose (bass), and Michael Tapper (drums).”

Tour Dates

01/12 Yellow Ostrich with Poolboy and Lamar at Icehouse
01/19 Yellow Ostrich with Trash Date and Lupin at Icehouse
01/26 Yellow Ostrich with Brunett
