Opening the show was Chicago born Sarah Walk, starting her quiet set with “Wrong Path”.
The singer mentioned that she grew up in Minneapolis, so being back in town, she was excited to see her family again. She then talked about the first time she got paid for playing music, in a Summer long ago. She was supposed to supply background music for some students during lunch time. Her set time is three hours, so she basically played the same songs over and over (nobody noticed). She got a couple of hundred bucks, and thought, this was it, this is how she was going to make it.
Like Bre Kennedy, Walk’s songs are all personal little stories. “Part of Me”, was her most personal. She was living in London at the time, when she wrote that song. I’m assuming the song is about how she married her wife two years ago (in fact tomorrow was their anniversary), and it’s about sharing a part of her.
Apparently, she has socks for sale at the merchandise table. You see, her name is Walk, so she got the idea of selling socks.
The set ended with “Crazy Still” and “Little Black Book.”
After tonight, Walk will play Milwaukee with Bre, and then will be heading out on a co-headlining tour with Indianapolis-based folk-pop duo Lily & Madeleine fall 2023 tour, starting in Columbus on October 11.

Singer, songwriter, and producer Bre Kennedy must be exhausted. She attended a wedding in Tennessee, and then left Nashville at 3am to fly to Minneapolis. If she was tired, she didn’t show it.
She’s joined on stage by keyboardist Hadley and guitarist Chris. When Bre was introducing them, she said, “my best friend Hadley”, then Chris joked about following after that intro. It was a good laugh.
When Kennedy moved from Los Angeles to Nashville, she dreamt of playing music with Sheryl Crow. Then her dream came true when Crow asked her to open for her at the Ryman Auditorium. She couldn’t believe it. It was thanks to her single “Jealous Of Birds” that got Crow to notice, and the rest was history.
This was Kennedy’s first headline tour, starting in September 28, and finding herself in Minneapolis on Sunday night. The tour is to promote her forthcoming album Scream Over Everything, due out November 10 on Nettwerk Records. In the “meantime”, we heard the title track and “Meantime.” For more preview tracks, her Scream Over Everything (Side A) EP is available now.
