There’s a trend in the gaming industry to automatically hate the latest Assassin’s Creed game, simply because of the aggressive release nature in these games (we get a new Assassin’s Creed game every one or two years). As a result, all the games are basically the same, in terms of visuals and gameplay. You play one Assassin’s Creed game, and you’ve played them all.

I’m going to go against the trend and tell you that I love these Assassin’s Creed games. I truly have enjoyed Assassin’s Creed Origins (2017), Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (2018), and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (2020)… and I am always interested in more.

Unfortunately, the latest Assassin’s Creed Mirage is not great. I still enjoyed the game, but there are a few things that did not like about it:

First of all, based on being in Baghdad, with all the sands, it feels like they are just re-using assets from Origins.

Unlike previous games, you can only play as a male assassin.

Finally, your skill tree is so very limited, compared to previous games. You can either play stealth, play rogue, or upgrade your eagle. It’s not my style of play, as I like to jump into action and beat up everyone.

The game is also very story-focused, and I feel like there’s less freedom to play the game as I would like to play.

With such limitations, I just felt like this wasn’t a “full” $60 game. I would later find out that this standalone game was actually originally meant as an expansion for Valhalla. That suddenly made sense on the game’s smaller scope. If that is the case, this is not a $60 game, I feel like the price should only be $40 or less.

Fortunately, thanks to the Christmas sale, and additional 33% coupon, via Epic Games, I only paid about $30 for the game… which I think is a fairer price to ask for this game.

Right now, if you want to play the game on PC, you have to do it through Epic or I think through Ubisoft. While the game is available on the Xbox and PS5, I would just prefer to play it on PC as the game does support ultrawide (see screen shot). Visually, this game looks great at ultra-high settings with HDR. It still sucks that whenever a pre-rendered videos are still at regular wide screen, so you’ll see black bars on the left and right of the monitor.
