Brit Award (Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Best British Female Solo Artist) and Mercury Prize winner, Arlo Parks, stopped by First Avenue, in Minneapolis, on Friday, March 15. This is her third appearance in the area (the first time in September 2022, and the second in December 2023). She confessed on stage that the reasons why she loves coming here is because of her mother. Her mother is a huge Prince fan, so through her daughter, she was making her take photos of all the Prince landmarks. This is good news, as this would guarantee Arlo Parks to return next year, and so on.

Arlo Parks is currently touring in support of her sophomore album My Soft Machine, which came out May 26, 2023, on Transgressive Records. So, looking at her setlist, lots of new songs, but obviously still playing the favorites from the debut record, including “Black Dog” and “Hurt”.

The leading single of My Soft Machine, “Weightless”, was played early in the set. Soon “Impurities” and “Pegasus” followed, the latter “experiencing the warmth and lightness of good love for the first time.”

The new record is a very personal album for Arlo Parks, who also released an accompanied book called THE MAGIC BORDER: Poetry And Fragments From My Soft Machine (HarperCollins Publishing), which will give additional insights about the singer, and now writer.

Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter, Chloe George, opened the all-ages show, playing a very brief 30-min set of her EP Penny, including the title track.

Highlight of her set was a cover of Blondie’s “Heart of Glass.”Remaining tour dates:
