American rock and folk rock/americana singer and songwriter James McMurtry will be returning to Minneapolis on April 9th at the Fine Line, in Minneapolis. McMurtry’s album The Horses and the Hounds is out now on New West Records.

is an , songwriter, guitarist, bandleader, and occasional actor. He performs with veteran bandmates Daren Hess, Cornbread and Tim Holt. His father, novelist Larry McMurtry, gave him his first guitar at age seven.

Kublai Khan TX, based out of Texas, is not to be confused with Minnesota’s 80s thrash metal band Kublai Khan.

The Texan band is headlining First Avenue on April 9, 2024, and heavily promoted by The Pit on 93X. This 18+ metal show will bring with them a mini-festival, featuring support bands:

Sunami, an American hardcore punk band formed in San Jose, California in 2019.

Judiciary, Texan breakneck thrash band.

Momentum, a five piece metallic hardcore group based in Los Angeles.

New Jersey’s Real Estate is touring in support of their forthcoming album, Daniel.

We saw Real Estate in June 2018 and said, “New Jersey’s Real Estate (singer/guitarist Martin Courtney IV, bassist Alex Bleeker, drummer Jackson Pollis, keyboard Matt Kallman, and guitarist Julian Lynch) closed out the show. Bassist Alex Bleeker mentioned on stage that this was the band’s first time playing the First Avenue mainroom. This is, in fact, true, since they were originally scheduled for First Avenue in November 2017 (with Lucy Dacus), but unfortunately had to postponed it until this year.”

Fan favorites The Mountain Goats is back on tour… stopping by the Palace Theatre, in St Paul, on April 12, 2024.

We saw Mountain Goats in May 2022 and said, “The Mountain Goats (John Darnielle, Jon Wurster, Peter Hughes and Matt Douglas) was happy to be back on tour, after being locked down for two years. There was no new music, but having released three albums, fans were happy to hear those songs live. Looking at their setlist, it was divided into three parts: a first normal section, a middle John Darnielle solo section of three songs (the last being a cover of Ralph Chaplin’s “Mourn Not The Dead”), followed by a finale section.””

Katy Kirby to open. We saw Katy Kirby in 24 Sep 2022 and wrote, “Kirby’s very brief 25-min set was very quiet, and thankfully, the audience was very attentive, and hanging on every note. She ended her set with a song that “she’s never played live before”, even though the song was written in March 2020. The very short song is about wishing someone special a happy little birthday.”
