Pixies and Modest Mouse
with Cat Power
at Surly Brewing Festival Field

first-avenue.com

It’s really the perfect line up for this outdoor venue at the Surly Brewing Festival Field. We got two heavy-hitters of Pixies and Modest Mouse and Cat Power … all crowd favorites.

We’ve seen all these bands before, with Pixies in Oct 2014 and said, “Of course, I was excited to hear that the Pixies reformed in 2004. I tried to get a ticket to their first gig was at Minneapolis’ Fine Line Café for April 13, but it immediately sold out. Ten years later, the Pixies triumphantly returned to Minneapolis to another sold out show at the State Theatre.”

We last saw Modest Mouse in Jun 2023 and wrote, “Modest Mouse has managed to carry…err, Float On, despite the devastating death of their drummer Jeremiah Green at the end of last year (we caught the band last Sept w/Green and in December without), with the sun emerging from cloudy skies, just as the band took to the stage. Latest LP is still 2021’s The Golden Casket, with a supposed 9-track follow-up EP, due soon and their hour-long set would wrap with 2004’s “The World At Large “and singer Isaac Brock crooning, “My thoughts were so loud.””

Cat Power to open. She does allow photos, so there’s some vuart for you. We saw her at the Fitzgerald in March 2024 and noted, “The idea of this concert came from Cat Power’s love for Bob Dylan and her obsession of Bob Dylan’s “Royal Albert Hall Concert” in 1966 (which is actually a mislabeled bootleg for the Dylan’s Manchester Free Trade Hall in May 1966). The famed original performance saw Dylan playing a traditional acoustic and harmonica set… but then, midway in his show, he switched to electric – and that drew a lot of outrage from the purists in the crowd, who did not want their rock ‘n’ roll in their folk.”
