Horror: Jester 2
Here’s a bonus Halloween movie review.
Just in time for Halloween, The Jester 2 released last month (September 15, 2025). By its title, you should know this is the sequel to The Jester (2023).
The Jester looks slightly different in this new film, it’s not a man in rubber mask, but it’s supposed to be his actual face. I guess call it Jester 2.0, the new and improved Jester.
The first film was okay, it suffered from an unlikeable lead character and equally poor acting… and frankly a bad story. It’s one of those ending where “it was all a dream”, kind of bad ending.
In the Jester 2, there’s actually an origin story and explanation why the Jester does what he does. He made a deal with the devil and every Halloween he has to deliver four spirits to the devil. There’s a bit of a problem, because he needed a help of a “15-year-old” magician to help him trick his victims with a magic trick. I put the age in quote because the lead actress looks like she’s going on 30.
So now that we know he has these rules (the four souls on Halloween), it does lay the groundworks for future movies. With a clear vision and story, this film is one of the rare sequels that is much better than the first film.
I think the biggest problem the Jester has is that everyone, including myself, say he is just a crappier version of Art the Clown, from those Terrifier movies. If a third movie is in the works, and if they do it right, we can add The Jester to the all-stars of Horror Icons, like Freddy Krueger, Jason, Michael Myers, and Pinhead.
