Not because it’s just past Halloween, but we’ve got a canceled Goblin—

There are currently two versions of the classic Italian band (not the first time in rock this has happened) and of course, they’re legally squabbling, so this weekend’s show at the recordBar and their tour is canceled.

Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin is led by original keyboardist Claudio Simonetti, this version tours and performs the classic Goblin soundtracks. We saw them in Lawrence a couple years ago, and loved it.

Goblin Legacy features other original and long-time members (such as Maurizio Guarini, Fabio Pignatelli, and Massimo Morante) and also tours performing the band’s music, claiming the record company Cinevox owns the name, not Simonetti, and that dispute has derailed their current tour. We hope they’ll all come to terms soon.

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 14

Katy Guillen and the Drive, Nov 14, Knuckleheads,$25.45

KC favorites and life partners Katy Guillen (vocals/guitar) and Stephanie Williams (drums) – have released their sophomore album Make That Sound via Nashville collective label, Are & Be Recordings. and are celebrating with this album release party.

Along with the album, the duo have released the focus track/video for “Love You For All Time.” This song is a love anthem, “written for the love of my life [Steph]. It’s about staying strong together through the distractions and outside forces that may test our relationship. No matter what, I’ll love you for all time.” – Katy Guillen

The group dropped their first EP, Dream Girl, right before the 2020 lockdown. At the end of 2021, the band released the four-track Battles EP. Ten more songs would comprise their full-length debut Another One Gained in 2022.

Madame Butterfly- Lyric Opera at Kauffman Center, Nov 14, 15, 16, $40.50-$244.50

The classic Puccini opera imagined by the Lyric and returning for the first time since 2018 means an all-star cast will take the Kauffman stage, including soprano Yunuet Laguna as Cio-Cio-San for the Friday and Sunday performances and Ann Toomey in the role for the Saturday performance. Tenor Viktor Antipenko returns Carmen, 2022) in the role of Lieutenant Pinkerton and mezzo-soprano Alice Chung returns to the Lyric in the role of Sharpless.

Through a heartless marriage of convenience, American naval officer Lieutenant Pinkerton ensnares young Cio-Cio-San (Butterfly), leading her to a tragic and profoundly unjust fate. A masterpiece of Italian opera, Madame Butterfly‘s lush score and exploration of love, betrayal, and cultural clash soars with operatic grandeur. The enduring power of Butterfly lies in its ability to touch the deepest corners of the human heart.

Jan Kraybill, Nov 15, Kauffman Center, Free w RSVP (low tix)

Enjoy “Melodies for the Mind,” an uplifting pipe organ concert designed to inspire hope and celebrate music’s incredible power of connection. Led by Grammy-nominated Dr. Jan Kraybill, this special concert will showcase the immense range of Julia Irene Dennie – Kauffman Casavant Organ, Opus 3875, in Helzberg Hall. This free 75-minute program will bring our community together in recognition of Alzheimer’s Awareness Month.

Grammy-nominated Kraybill is a musical leader, international concert organist, pianist, harpsichordist, educator and organ conservator for the Kauffman Center. In 2010, Kraybill achieved the distinction of Fellow of the American Guild of Organists — the highest certification level for organists. Kraybill’s solo album, “The Orchestral Organ,” was nominated for a Grammy for Best Classical Instrumental Solo Album in 2020.

Blondshell w/ she’s green, Nov 17, Truman, $27.44

Blondshell (aka Sabrina Teitelbaum) released her highly anticipated sophomore album, If You Asked For A Picture, earlier this year via Partisan Records. On November 14th, she will release Another Picture, an expanded and re imagined package that features both new and live Blondshell songs, covers by peers including Conor Oberst, Samia, and Folk Bitch Trio, plus features from John Glacier + a reworked take of “Arms” that features Gigi Perez. Blondshell’s U.S. tour picked back up on November 10 in Phoenix and wraps on November 22 in Cleveland.

Arrive early for one of our more recent favorite Minneapolis bands, she’s green in support of their new EP Chrysalis, out via Photo Finish Records. Arriving with the EP is the official music video for “Little Birds,” which features the band in a serene nature scene as the song builds up to an emotional catharsis. she’s green is a dream-inducing five-piece composed of vocalist Zofia Smith, guitarists Liam Armstrong and Raines Lucas, bassist Teddy Nordvold, and drummer Kevin Seebeck.
