Xmas25: Christmas Compilations

There is a recent reissue of Selections From Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, available now on, what else?, white vinyl from Universal Music Enterprises (UMe).
What we heard and saw on 1954’s film White Christmas is Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen serenading Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye with the song “Sisters”… but according to Variety, the Clooney part was initially intended for another timeless voice: Peggy Lee.
That’s pretty cool, considering that I really like Peggy Lee’s I’m A Woman (Expanded Edition), which came out in 2023 as part of the 60th Anniversary of the record.
Anyway, so about Peggy Lee in White Christmas… what happened? Paramount wanted Peggy Lee cast as Betty Haynes, but Warner Bros. declined to loan Lee to Paramount. However, when the film’s official soundtrack was released by Decca Records, the label ended up bringing Lee onboard to re-record Clooney’s songs, including “Love, You Didn’t Do Right By Me” and the beloved “Sisters.”
Strangely enough, Lee sung both parts in “Sisters”, using double-track recording … singing the role of both Clooney and Vera-Ellen, making it a one-woman duet.
Tracklisting:
- The Old Man
- Gee I Wish I Was Back In The Army (Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye)

Wicked Cool Records has a new holiday compilation called It’s A Wicked Cool Christmas, “an all-killer, no-filler holiday compilation”, arriving December 5th, 2025. Every track has been freshly polished and remastered by Justin Perkins at Mystery Room Mastering.
The lead single is “Christmas With Me” (featuring Rocco of the Snow), due out November 28, to give you a taste of what’s to come.
I was happy to see The Dollyrots on the compilation, as I’ve just recently saw the band live earlier this week. It’s weird that their song of choice is an old Scottish song “Auld Lang Syne” (Old Long Since), about saying goodbye to the old and welcoming in with the new – like a New Year song.
Track Listing:
- Christmastime – The Empty Hearts
- Christmas With Me – Jessie Wagner feat. Rocco of the Snow
- Another NY Christmas (Piss the Season) – WYLDLIFE
- Gimme Christmas – Prima Donna
- Christmas in the Sand (Mistletoe Mix) – Kurt Baker
- Santa’s Coming (Ho Ho Ho) – The Woggles
- To Heck with Ole Santa Claus – Ryan Hamilton
- Father Christmas – Steve Conte feat. John Conte
