Wolves of Glendale at Green Room (Sep 2, 2026)

We are big fans of music parodies at We Heart Music, just catching the godfather “Weird Al” Yankovic at Morton Amphitheater in June of this year. The Wolves of Glendale may still be far from reaching amphitheater bookings but that doesn’t mean that they haven’t already created a devoted following that sings along while laughing the whole time.

Wynchester opened up the evening with their own take on country music songs with ironic twists not normally found in country music. They are a duo of Mike Bray and John Konesky who started off their set with “Two Man Job,” which covers the oldest trope in country music that being a cheatin’ heart:

Loving you mama ain’t a two man job
That’s what my friends are for
Like when backing up my trailer
Or laying down a coat of paint
Or moving refrigerators
Or practicing restraint

Besides heartache, Bray and Konesky said they were going to cover all the facets in country music like denim jeans, cold beer and denim shorts. They even threw in a fun country cover of Lionel Richie’s “Easy Like Sunday Morning” with some fine guitar picking. Then it was “Second Family” and “High Desert Rambler” from their 2018 self-titled debut and “Drinking for Two” from their sophomore album “Wyldlyfe.”

During the intermission a video screen on stage kept flashing The Wolves of Glendale trivia like: Wolves have an extraordinary sense of smell. Ethan doesn’t. I also learned the band’s favorite movie about wolves is Teen Wolf because of the sick dunking skills. And then flashed an important request: If you like the show, please tell your friends about us. If you hate the show, our band’s name is “They Might Be Giants.”

The Wolves of Glendale are relatively new with their self-titled album being released in 2024. They are indeed from the L.A. suburb and consist of Ethan Edenburg on guitar, Erick Jackowitz on drums and Tom McGovern on guitar and keys. They are supporting their sophomore album Go to the Woods, and kicked off their set with “Vapin’ in Vegas”, which was a personal favorite because it has an infectious synth-pop vibe that perpetuated positivity even though the lyrics were about a 68 year-old degenerate on the Vegas Strip. And it was the contrast of the two that kept fans in the crowd singing and laughing the whole evening.

Unlike the “Weird Al”, The Wolves of Glendale don’t parody songs, but instead musical genres like “Reptile Guy” in the style of Weezer and “Vote Gus” in the style of Green Day and a fan favorite “Oliva” in the vein of Jackson Browne, a song about a guy who falls in love with a ghost living as a roommate.

One thing was apparent during the evening at the Green Room: This trio has fun. They are really good on the musician side and their harmonizing is surprisingly better than a parody band should be. And they are FUNNY and work really well together, as Ethan told L.A. Magazine:

We write every line, every note together. It all happens very organically and naturally. We all start yelling hopefully funny stuff at each other, and if someone laughs, that’s the cue. And then we piece it together like a Tetris puzzle. It’s both incredibly easy and a lot of fun.

And just to prove the above quote, after “Loud Ass Car” they asked if anyone in the crowd drove a crummy car. And just like that fingers in the crowd all pointed to one person. And from there the trio grilled a poor woman about her source of employment: TJ Maxx. Her crummy car: Ford EcoSport. And why it was crummy: She backed into a pole and smashed the back end. From there they fashioned a song just for Minneapolis. It had a German dance vibe with the repeated phrase “Ford EcoSport” that became infectious, so infectious that The Wolves could not put the song down as they kept coming up with more lyrics like driving down the autobahn in “My Ford EcoSport EcoSport.”

But eventually they had to get back on track, but not before Ethan admitted, “We just dropped a new album, but everyone is going to leave singing “My Ford EcoSport EcoSport.”
