The Cure

This week, we got an announcement that The Cure’s latest release will be a live album, recorded at Bestival 2011 (which just happened a few months ago, in September).
THE SECRET STORM

thesecretstorm.com

It’s been six years since Lauren Hoffman released Interplanetary Traveler, but now she’s back under her new project called The Secret Storm.

For those not familiar with Hoffman, she was signed to Virgin Records in 1997 and primarily released indie-pop albums. Now without the restriction of the major label, Hoffman has the freedom to write what she loves: depressing, gloomy alt-rock … citing The Cure has her favorite band.

The Secret Storm’s first release “In the Sun” came out last month, but it recently got noticed when they decided to put their music on Pandora Radio.

Hoffman and company (guitarist Tony Lechmanski, cellist Cathy Monnes, keys Ethan Lipscomb, bassist Jeff Diehm, and drummer Jordan Marchini) are incredibly pleased with the renewed interest and will likely put more music on Pandora going forward.

Look for the Secret Storm at Southern Cafe & Music Hall in Charlottesville, Virginia, this July 3rd.

STORM THE PALACE

London and parts of Edinburgh’s Storm the Palace (not to be confused with Toronto-area based party band Storm the Palace) recently released In Ruins EP on Seattle-based record label Abandoned Love Records.

Storm the Palace started with vocalist/guitarist Sophie Dodds and drummer Gordon Webster… but would later add pianist/accordionist Reuben Taylor and also featured cellist Pippa Murdie and bassist Sam Wilkinson.

The group’s music has been described as “romantic, literate and thrilling” and they are inspired by historical sweep, such as German composer Johann Sebastian Bach (not to be confused with hard rockers Skid Row’s Sebastian Bach) and the Baroque period and European folk and avant-garde pop… but also they are big fans of Kate Bush, Leonard Cohen and ABBA.

Live dates:

16 Jun 2015 Apples and Pears London

14 Jul 2015 The Plasterers Arms Norwich

30 Aug 2015 Jamboree London
