Zella Day, w/ Lany at 7th Street Entry, Minneapolis (29 July 2015)

Zella Day, w/ Lany at 7th Street Entry, Minneapolis (29 July 2015) Last night was not a show I would typically go to. I had never heard of either of the acts playing. I had no expectations and honestly, I kind of wanted to stay home and just soak in some more aloe (my sunburn from Warped Tour on Sunday is still ridiculously painful).

Minneapolis: July 29, 2015

Here are some concerts taking place in the Minneapolis/St Paul area on July 29, 2015. Austin trio Ringo Deathstarr (guitarist Elliott Frazier, bassist Alex Gehring, and drummer Daniel Coborn) will be back in the Twin Cities next week, July 29th. We first talked about them in 2011 when we discussed our guide to Shoegazing music.

Widowspeak at Georgia Theatre Rooftop, Athens (18 July 2015)

Widowspeak is a Brooklyn,NY-based band formed in 2010 by Molly Hamilton and Robert Earl Thomas. The duo play dreamy, western-tinged shoegaze rock, taking influence from 1950s pop ballads and 1970s psychedelia. Molly has a lovely, lilting voice, ever so slightly raspy, with a breathiness that can lull the listener into a pleasant waking dream. Widowspeak has often been compared to Mazzy Star, and their sound is also somewhat reminiscent of The Cowboy Junkies, who had a 1988 hit with a cover of The Velvet Underground’s Sweet Jane. However, I have a feeling that Widowspeak will stand the test of time a lot better than either of those two acts.
