Originally founded in 1991, the company is best known for producing the highly influential massively multiplayer online role-playing game World of Warcraft (2004) as well as the multi million-selling video game franchises Diablo, StarCraft, and Overwatch.

BlizzCon 2026 returned to the Anaheim Convention Center September 12–13, held by Blizzard Entertainment to promote its major franchises including Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo, Overwatch, Hearthstone, and Heroes of the Storm.
Typically held annually, it’s been canceled six times, including 2020 and 2022 for pandemic reasons, and in 2024 and 2025 with no reasons given, so fan anticipation was high for the 2026 return.
The gathering features two packed days of games, esports, cosplay, community events, celebrity appearances, and major game-related announcements.
Blizzard’s official programming included competitions, developer panels, Community Night, and a huge show floor alongside its major game reveals.
Grammy Award-winning artist T-Pain who joined the celebrations for the Overwatch World Cup.
Actor (Shang-Chi in the MCU) Simu Liu battled it out as a player in the Blizzard Classic Cup StarCraft II Entertainment Match, in addition to joined the casting desk.
EDM producer and DJ performer deadmau5 attended a Diablo-focused panel conversation.
Duke Dennis joined World of Warcraft activations, community engagements, and creator experiences on the show floor.
YOASOBI performed during the Overwatch World Cup’s first-ever halftime show, while Le Sserafim returned to BlizzCon for the closing performance. The K-pop group had previously made history as the first K-pop act to perform in 2023.
Announcements included:
StarCraft– after years of speculation, the company announced an original open-world shooter set in the Koprulu Sector, scheduled for spring 2030.
Diablo V was announced for spring 2029. Blizzard also announced that the Amazon class will return to Diablo IV in the first half of 2027, while the game arrives on Nintendo Switch 2.
World of Warcraft– The upcoming Midnight era continues with the Eclipse update, while The Last Titan remains positioned as the culmination of the long-running Worldsoul Saga.
World of Warcraft: Forever is a new Vanilla-era experience featuring three new zones, more than 1,000 quests, nine dungeons, two raids and the new Skyborne race. It is scheduled to launch November 4, with beta already live.
Warcraft III: Reforged received a new campaign, Forsaken Kingdom, marking the first new story campaign in more than 23 years. The accompanying 3.0 update also brings a graphics overhaul and an improved World Editor, with the campaign available immediately.
Overwatch entered its second decade with a look at Season 5 and beyond. Doctrine, a vampire-inspired Support hero, was unveiled, alongside substantial Sombra and Roadhog reworks and a new map, Watchpoint: Grimsvötn. The season also concludes The Reign of Talon, the game’s first year-long narrative arc. Blizzard also announced another Overwatch Spotlight for February.
Hearthstone also received a substantial roadmap, including the Reign of the Black Empire expansion, the new Assemble keyword, Aberrations arriving in Battlegrounds, and the return of the Monk class in March 2027—the game’s first new playable class in six years.
Esports competition included the Overwatch World Cup, World of Warcraft’s Mythic Dungeon International and Arena World Championship, Hearthstone’s Masters Tour World Championship and the Blizzard Classic Cup. Community Night once again celebrated cosplay, art, short films and fan talent, best experienced in-person versus online.
All in all, BlizzCon 2026 lived up to fans’ expectations with events, talent, and major announcements, feeling like a long-term schedule for their major franchises, and involving their core fans in attendance, to be the first to hear about them.
