Site Update: DVD/Bluray Shelves

■ My MoviesI was pretty happy with My Movies 4, so I’m going to suggest if you already paid for version 4, there’s no need to upgrade to version 5. However, if you want to support the developers, like I do, I think the $15 is a fair asking price for the app. Especially, if you consider that you’re also getting an iPad version for free (since the app is universal)
I recently purchased these Furinno’s LUDER Book Shelf (11-Cube) for my media collection. When I moved to Jacksonville, I took some of my movies, but did not bring along the shelves with me. So, basically, I need to rebuy new shelves. However, the sad thing is, manufacturers don’t really make or design their shelves for CDs, DVDs, or Blurays. All the shelves I’ve looked at were really designed for displaying books. It’s not ideal, but it will have to do.
Most of my favorite movies are stored in my room, while the rest of my collection sits in bags and boxes, in my storage room. Now that I bought two of these Luder book shelves, I set them in horizontal (landscape), and stacked them together to make one large shelf.
I already knew this wasn’t big enough for my DVD/Bluray collection, but it still holds about 20% of what I’ve got. The rest can still remain in storage, while I figure out my display situation. I think the priority, for me, is to house all the steelbooks.
One of the nice things about the size is that it’s perfect for the DC Comics Compact comics. If I did the math right, you can store over 120 Compact books. The Compact size is like a paperback book or Manga-sized… so if you collect manga, it’s actually the perfect shelving solution.
By the way, the shelf, I believe was meant to be vertical, as seen in their promotional photos. The middle section can hold an Absolute Edition, so it’s at least 12 inches or taller. It’s wide enough that it will accommodate the entire book (with only centimeters sticking out due to the box).
For about $40, I think it’s a great price for a shelf. Anything more, I would probably rank it lower. If it costs more, I would complain that the screws don’t sit flush into the wood – so it sticks out just slightly. You can damage books if the screw gets caught or scrape the bottom of your book. It doesn’t come with an anchor… but it’s not tall enough to fall and hurt someone. They’re just minor gripes.
Another thing to note is that shelves have gotten really expensive in the past year, no thanks to Donald Trump’s tariffs. Hopefully, with the Blue Tsunami that everyone predicted, they can repeal these stupid tariffs and bring down prices. So maybe there’s some hope in the future, and I can afford to buy more shelves for all my media.
