ABOUT
Knocked Loose is a metalcore/hardcore band that started in 2013 out of Oldham County, KY. The 5-piece act is known for their wild live shows, violent musical style, and for the band’s distinct high-pitched screaming vocals from their lead singer Bryan Garris.

Oct 22 Knocked Loose Denzel Curry

Unpredictable, chaotic, and intense-

Those might not be the most persuasive words to see a show, but those risking enough to see a completely unique live experience from some very buzzing and cutting age live acts of today, were rewarded with a memorable evening that will likely be talked about for weeks.

Knocked Loose and Denzel Curry joined forces live, following their groundbreaking collaborative recent single of the same name (released in February), for their 2026 Hive Mind Tour which made a midtown KC stop at the Uptown Theater.

Bringing together the relentless aggression of hardcore and metalcore with the explosive energy of hip-hop, this co-headlining tour proves that great live music doesn’t need to fit neatly into one genre.

Kansas City Photographer Jason Domingues Photography Knocked LooseKnocked Loose is the rising Kentucky hardcore band that seems determined to make every performance feel like the room might come apart at the seams. Singer Bryan Garris’s unmistakable vocals cut through the crushing guitars and thunderous drums, creating an atmosphere that is equal parts exhilarating and overwhelming.

The band’s last full-length was 2021’s A Tear in the Fabric of Life, but they’ve released a handful of singles since, including last year’s “Suffocate” featuring Poppy, which was Grammy Award-nominated, and played some stadium-sized shows in Europe this Spring, in support of Metallica.

Kansas City Photographer Jason Domingues Photography Knocked LooseLive, the band is a soundtrack to the unabashed release of emotions, physical exhaling and thrashing and colliding experience that is a crowd unleashed on itself. Songs like “Deep in the Willow,” “Mistakes Like Fractures,” and “Counting Worms” bring the kind of intensity that turns the entire venue into a sea of movement filled with circle pits and crowd surfers, all as fans are screaming every word.

And, oh that wall of death! – A massive, coordinated mosh pit where the crowd splits down the middle into two opposing sides and charges into each other when the heavy breakdown hits – this cannot be properly described and must be experienced live.

The Hive Mind Tour proves how naturally these seemingly different musical worlds can come together, perhaps best personified on the collab single itself, played during Knocked Loose’s set, with Curry coming out to join to add his trademark rapid-fire flow over the heavy sound.

Hardcore and hip-hop share the same love of raw emotion, defiance, and music that makes you feel something physically which when experienced live. The combination this night was an immersive and inclusive experience that is unapologetically intense, skirts the edge of several musical genres, and is ultimately an exhilarating ride you’ll be glad to be catching your breath from.

Rapper Denzel Curry always brings a notable amount of personality and intensity to the stage. His rapid-fire delivery, commanding presence, and constant movement make his performance feel like a full-body experience rather than a collection of song as he encourages fans to jump, mosh, and shout along.

Curry’s style is an almost indescribable mix that blends cloud rap, aggressive trap, and punk metal with conscious hip-hop, some jazz influence, with a dense Florida bass thumping.

Though more hardcore fans might not be familiar with all of his work, Curry’s energy makes it difficult to stand still and collaborations with acts like The Scythe and others, shows he plays well with others, as well as on his own.

Taking the energy to a crescendo, closing his set with a matched pair of Rage Against the Machine classics brought the crowd to utter mayhem and connected his hip-hop’s rebellious spirit with the rock aggression that happens when styles are blended and explode out under pressure.

Hartford, CT five-piece hardcore band Boundaries has a new album out via Sumerian Records, Yearning: The unbeautiful after, released July 17. The melodic metalcore group (who formed back in 2013) features a mix of hard and clean vocals and songs from the new album heard live, “Skies cast amber black,” “May this pain never leave” and “Only endless” may seem a bit bleak from their titles, but were delivered with enough energy and force, that left emotions high and served as a collective release from the crowd.

Superheaven is a Doylestown, PA alt-rock quartet that leans into 1990s atmospheric grunge as an influence and is back in action after a mid 2010’s hiatus. The band released a self-titled full length last year, which includes “Stare at the Void” as well as single, “Numb to What Is Real”, both of which were worked into their live setlist.
