Britpop Now 2026
With the recent Suede’s 30th Anniversary of Coming Up in September 2026… here are a few other anniversaries and celebrations of Britpop bands.

■ ElasticaElastica was an English rock and Britpop band formed in London in 1992. Justine Frischmann (vocals/guitar) and Justin Welch (drums), both former members of Suede.
Elastica
In 2017, there was a rumor going around about a new Elastica project, as three members of the band (Donna, Justin, and Annie) got together at Abbey Roads studios. Well, it took nearly a decade later, but the coolest Britpop band resurfaced in 2026 with new merchandises in their online store. The best news yet is Rough Trade Records re-issued their 1995 self-titled album as a double-disc CD (or vinyl) set in early October.
I have the re-issue, and I’m not sure if it was remastered or anything. It sounds the same as my original 1995 album. The second disc is just B-sides and rarities… most (if not all) I’ve already got from buying all their singles and EPs during that time period.
If you’re an original fan, it might not be worth importing the record… but for new fans, hopefully they can rediscover the band on the Spotify and stuff.
Elastica adds:
Missed us?
We’ve been busy behind the scenes, but we’re back. Keep your eyes peeled, there are some exciting things in the works. 👀
Based on their cryptic message, I hope the band goes on tour again! I haven’t seen them since 2000 (they shortly broke up after the tour).
Texas
Not exactly Britpop, but I would say Britpop-adjacent, Scottish rock band Texas (featuring the beautiful Sharleen Spiteri), announced the 30th Anniversary of White on Blonde. The anniversary album will be come out in February 5, 2027 on Play It Again Sam.
Sharleen Spiteri talks about the album:
It didn’t feel risky because no-one at our label gave a sh**. We were in Glasgow, we made the album in my house and I did all the vocals in the coat cupboard. We had nothing to lose, and anyway, I didn’t want to fit in. If everybody’s doing something, I’m always running in the opposite direction and that’s always been the attitude – whether it’s walking on stage at Glastonbury, or with ‘White On Blonde.’ It’s always been us saying: We will play our own tune. If you want to jump on, great. If you hate us, fine. But this is what we want to do.
What will make the 30th Anniversary release special is that it will feature a brand-new, unrelease song called “Another Way to Cry”. The track is said to be influenced by Northern Soul and filled with brass and strings. Can’t wait to hear it!
Sleeper
Britpop band Sleeper will be releasing a new album called End of the World, set for release on February 12, 2027. Like their last release of The Modern Age in 2018, I do not believe there will be a physical CD or vinyl release for America (they’ve never been popular here). You can get a digital copy of it, of course, but for true fans, you’ll want to track down the vinyl. There’s also autographed editions, if you don’t already have Louise Wener’s autograph.
Track listing:
- Up Not Crying
- End Of The World
- Trenches
- Incomplete
- The View
- Don’t Need Anybody
- Nothing
- You Killed Beauty
- Get Home
- Let Go Of Desire
Kula Shaker
Psychedelic Britpop band Kula Shaker is celebrating the 30th Anniversary of K, with K-Reinkarnate, a complete new performance and re-recording of the original K album – set for release on February 5, 2027.
Although K was their best-known album (hitting #1 in the UK charts), I never bought the record back in 1997. Instead, I did manage to pick up Summer Sun, which had “Govinda”… which I think was their best-known song, that is until their cover of “Hush” blew up in the States.
What I love about “Govinda” is that I really thought a group of Indian (Asian) musician wrote that song.
Anyway, I only got to sample “Govinda” from the forthcoming K-Reinkarnate and I can tell you, it’s totally different. A more extended intro. More power and punch to the song, more mixes with the girl vocals. I think I like both version…. both version can exist together.
Band leader Crispian Mills comments:
We didn’t try to recreate K. You can’t recreate a moment, only reincarnate it. So we went back to tape, played it live, and let the band we are now sit alongside the band we were in 1996. What came back was the same record, and a completely different one.
Luke Haines
Look, I love The Auteurs and I might be a bigger Black Box Recorder fan! I simply love the output of one Luke Haines (got his autograph in 1994). Well Haines recently collaborated with Irish musician Mike Smalle, along with filmmaker Jules Hackett, to release “The Black Maria, O”. It’s based on an original song by Irish-American lyricist Edward Harrigan.
The song is taken from the The Black Maria, O EP, which features other artists like Jah Wobble and Stalked by Story … but my review digital copy only had “The Black Maria, O” sung by Luke Haines (it’s good to hear his voice again – reminds me of After Murder Park), “From the Tombs” by Bring Your Own Hammer, and “Quinn The Adventurer” by Adrian Crowley. They’re all really good… they’re like songs from a different century. You’re not going to hear these songs on the radio.
Here’s the track listing from Amazon:
- The Black Maria, O – Luke Haines & Mike Smalle
- Arcadian Shores – Stalked by Story feat. Theodine 1
- In Between The Bars – Alan Hempsall & Dave Clarkson
- Saucy Dogs – Jah Wobble, Mike Smalle & Hammerettes
