■ Mobile GamesThis game is part base-building (like Fallout Shelter) and part-auto-battle. You need to recruit various DC heroes & villains and have them auto-fight rivals and save cities… This game is all over the place. There are like 50 currencies and 20 different stores. To me, it’s a mess.
I just beat Legion Breaker. The game is a cheap ($7 – but you can get it for about $5 right now), but very short game that just came out on October 13th. The game came out in a middle of a busy gaming season (at least for me), with WasabiCon (anime and gaming convention) and YXSTABY Gaming Event taking place on the same weekend. In fairness, perhaps that shortness (it took about four hours for me to beat the game) is to its blessing.
However, I would like to see the developer add some sort of infinite gameplay, and/or restart the game again, but with a different protagonist with a different skill set. Maybe instead of launching the main weapon like a catapult, they can shoot arrow straight with piercing damage. Maybe the same enemies, but colored in a different color. That way, a four hour game can become an eight or twelve hour game simply by adding a game-plus feature.
What I really like about the game is the addictive nature of always upgrading and unlocking more and more spells. I really love seeing what I’ve just unlocked, so I always looked forward to re-entering the battlefield to see what new damage I can do. You get to a point that you’re all-powerful, especially after you upgraded everything in your skill tree. However, that’s also a big criticism … after becoming all-powerful with your army of pikemen and archers – when you come face-to-face with the main villain – the Necromancer King – you have to fight alone. None of the other powers and perks are with you in the final battle. The worst part is that if you die, you have to battle that final stage from the beginning. It was a chore just to get back to the Necromancer King.
Just understand that this is a cheap game, that was designed to complete in a few hours. Graphics aren’t going to be the main feature (in fact, I think the pixel artwork is just bad – but you quickly ignore the bad art when there are so much going on your screen). The gameplay is pretty simple; you just point your mouse in the direction you want your character to shoot. The game almost plays by itself. I think the lack of input and pixel art, that this game was really designed for a touch screen… perhaps it was always meant to be played on a phone or a less powerful tablet. It’s perfect for a small screen like a Steam Deck, ROG Ally, or Legion Go.
I noticed one bug in the game. Once you beat the game and you re-start a new game – you always get “0 gold” display (even though you did earn gold). I’m sure this is an easy fix, and I’m not even sure if many gamers will want to re-do the whole game over again, so it’s unlikely they’ll experience this 0 gold bug.
If you want a quick, fun, easy game, get the game now for about $5. I think that’s the perfect price point for the game.
