Taste of Minnesota – Downtown Minneapolis (July 3, 2026)

The Triple Rock Social Club was a legendary bar, music venue, and restaurant in Minneapolis, Minnesota, co-owned by Erik Funk and Gretchen Funk. Serving as a cornerstone for the local punk and hardcore scene for 19 years, the venue permanently closed its doors on November 22, 2017

It is with heavy hearts that we must finally announce that Palmer’s Bar last day of business will be this September 14th, 2025. This has been an incredibly difficult but necessary decision and we are devastated to do so. Thank you so very much to everyone that has been keeping this bar alive since 1906, especially our very faithful regulars, and the incredibly talented musicians that have played our stages over the years. Above all else, our staff - who make the place so special and who really are the best in the business. We wouldn’t have made it this far without you all.
I previously mentioned that I’ve seen Danish indie rock duo The Raveonettes at at least twice (I’m almost certain I’ve seen them prior to 2007, because I was listening to Whip It On in 2002 and would have likely seen them on that tour (if they toured at all).
Oh man, how I love Art Brut. This isn’t really a band, it’s more like a weird art-rock with singer Eddie Argo “singing” or talking over music. Argo writes the best songs, like “Formed a Band”, which tells the secret origin of him forming a band: “Formed a band, we formed a band! Look at us, we formed a band! … And yes, this is my singing voice, it's not irony, it's not rock and roll. We’re just talking to the kids.”
I really wanted to catch British shoegazing band 2:54 on their first USA tour, but due to a rare opportunity to see Jonathan Coulton at the Gutherie Theatre on June 18, 2012, I had to let Amy G take charge for this Triple Rock Social Club show.
Portland’s Blitzen Trapper wrapped up their November 2024 in support of 100's of 1000's, Millions of Billions (Yep Roc Records). The new album features Eric D. Johnson of Fruit Bats and singer-songwriter Anna Tivel.
The only time I saw Voxtrot, it was on their tour with Au Revoir Simone, who I saw with Peter, Bjorn & John at First Avenue on 09 May 2007. Heather from Au Revoir Simone came on stage to sing the girl part in “Young Folks.” I thought the Au Revoir Simone girls were so handsome.

To be honest, I wasn't supposed to be at this show, but already having missed Skybombers the first time around when they opened up for X, I felt I had to turn up to support these guys this time around at The Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis. Usually these Triple Rock shows have at least three bands (hence: triple), but Monday night, they were overbooked with FIVE bands.
Los Angeles duo Girlpool recently stopped by the Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis (October 23) to celebrate their sophomore album Powerplant (Anti- Records).
After nearly 20 years in business, Minneapolis’ Triple Rock Social Club will be closing its door for good this November. We will miss going to shows there. The very first Triple Rock show that I can remember seeing is Stereo Total in May 2005… about two years after the T-Rock opened its music stage.
Japanese Breakfast (Michelle Zauner) has played Minneapolis many times, but last Monday (October 2nd) at the Triple Rock Social Club, was Zauner’s first time as headliner.
