The Triple Rock Social Club was a legendary bar, music venue, and restaurant in Minneapolis, Minnesota, co-owned by Erik Funk and Gretchen Funk. Serving as a cornerstone for the local punk and hardcore scene for 19 years, the venue permanently closed its doors on November 22, 2017

UK art rockers, alt-J are certainly no strangers to the awkward task of assigning context to obscure subjects. The quartet met at Leeds University in 2007 as students of English Lit and Fine Art. Rather than pursue the steady income guaranteed from an art degree, they began creating music together under the moniker Daljit Dhaliwal (creepily, a real-life person), later adopting alt-J* as their permanent nom de plume.
Here are a three bands playing at the Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis.
The venue was championed as "Best Rock Venue" of 2011. Certainly not a venue that I would put in my top five… but I can understand that the City Pages didn't want to place the same venue in the #1 spot year after year.
I've previously written about the cancellation of the SoundTown Music & Camping Festival. Their loss is your gain! Get a chance to see some of these fine bands at smaller venues:
The much-hyped London-based shoegaze-tinged sister act 2:54 played the Triple Rock (and Minneapolis) for the first time Monday night.

The King Khan & BBQ Show – I’ll Never Belong The King Khan and BBQ...
Loads of Art Brut fans were in the audience that night. You can tell by all the t-shirt and their eagerness of being in front and center. When the band came on, doing "Formed a Band", which singer Eddie Argos turns to the audience and said, "you ought to try it, it's brilliant!"
To be honest, I wasn't supposed to be at this show, but already having missed Skybombers the first time around when they opened up for X, I felt I had to turn up to support these guys this time around at The Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis. Usually these Triple Rock shows have at least three bands (hence: triple), but Monday night, they were overbooked with FIVE bands.
Vampire Weekend must be very pleased with themselves. I mean, these guys were on SNL (3/18/08), on the cover of Spin Magazine (Mar 2008), and overall huge support from MPR ... so basically these guys are probably the most overhyped band right now.
British Sea Power are quite famous, so I won't spend too much time talking about them. They played here in Minneapolis yesterday (March 21st) at the Triple Rock Social Club.
Concert: Blitzen Trapper at the Triple Rock Club I guess I've never noticed it before, but the reason why it's called The Triple Rock Club is that a show usually calls for three bands (one headliner and two openers).
Sorry for all these posts, this is the last one for sure! I saw Voxtrot last night. See related entry listed below to find out more information on Voxtrot.
