■ Cat Attack
Apple identified the cat as either a Turkish Van or a Snowshoe, but I don’t think the cat is a snowshoe because one of the characteristics of black legs with white paws (hence snowshoes). She’s also a polydactyl – she has an extra tiny finger on her two front paws… so her paw seems really big. The hind legs have normal digits. I’ve read that old sailors thought these cats were lucky and they make great mousers.

As you know, in April, I adopted a Turkish Van kitten. I previously adopted two Russian blue brothers in 1999, and one of them developed cancer and died in 2013 (age 14) and the other one died in August 2017 (age 18). I hadn’t had a cat in my life for nearly a decade, so it was joy to have a new little baby kitten running around, knocking things over, being lazy around the house. Plus, she’s a polydactyl, which I found really intriguing because I’ve never heard of this mutation before I met Mew Mew.

In late Thursday night, Mew Mew brought home a stray little tuxedo kitten. I checked my security camera footage and saw that the black & white kitten was slowly following Mew, who led him to the front of the house. She lay down and the kitten also sat down and they waited until we brought them inside the house.

Tux, my nickname for him, ate up everything we put in front of him. He was so boney, like he had never eaten a full meal before. Thankfully, we have soft pate kitten food, because Mew, despite looking like she’s a teenager, she’s four months old! So, Tux ate and ate until his belly couldn’t hold any more food and then he drank and drank from the cat fountain.

I would guess that Tux is only two weeks old, and if Mew hadn’t rescued him, he may not have survived much longer. It seemed like his mother abandoned him and luckily Mew found him and led him home.

I have been leaving dry catfood outside my house and every morning, the food’s gone… so I hope it’s the mother cat that is eating and enjoying the food. Mew doesn’t like dry cat food, being spoiled with wet food, so I’m glad other cats are eating it.

Apple identifies Tux as either an American Wirehair or an Oriental Shorthair. I tend to think it’s an Oriental Shorthair because of the shape of his head and green eyes.

He’s super friendly and gets along with Mew Mew. And there you have it: I’m now raising two cats. They can be a handful, but most of the time they’re low maintenance. I just have to make sure I have enough cat food and kitty litter in stock.
