The Cats
The Cats
London’s Reggae and Ska ensemble The Cats is the latest spotlight from Minneapolis’ Secret Stash Records. We’re big fans, having attended a few of their shows (RIP Sonny Knight) and have purchased some of their records before. I’m so happy the vinyl revival is back, but the truth is … vinyl records have always been around for true music fans.
Apparently, the song is part of a forthcoming The Cats self-titled compilation album, and week by week, Secret Stash is releasing a song, such as “Falling in Love”. They mentioned that the vinyl is “all pressed up” so pretty soon you will see more details on how you can purchase it, via secretstashrecords.com.
Additional details:
The full compilation pulls together both their own releases and sessions where The Cats served as the backing band. Styles range from rocksteady to blues and even funk. More soon. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, yes there is a vinyl pressing coming!
In the meantime, their Vondells’ limited 500 of Soldier Boy/Hey Girl You’ve Changed is 70% sold… and it’s not even out yet. The official release date is next Friday, September 18.

The Cats Miaow
The Cat’s Miaow
Australian lo‑fi twee indiepop band The Cat’s Miaow is back with When You Smiled And Turned Away… their first proper studio album, since 1993’s How Did Everything Get So F**ked Up. Since then, they’ve changed their name to Hydroplane, due to the different music direction… but now, it looks like The Cat’s Miaow is back.

The Catburgers Galashiels
The Catburgers
Scotland’s The Catburgers formed in Edinburgh in late 1985, inspired by a chance encounter seeing The Television Personalities live. They weren’t a recording band, so 35 years later, Slumberland Records have put together Galashiels: a collection of recently discovered archival recordings from the band (capturing the band’s 60s influenced guitar pop in the mid-80s). Galashiels will be available on vinyl, CD and digital download.
The group is still around! They’re playing The Wee Red Bar in Edinburgh, on September 25, with support from Autocamper. Sadly, the Wee Red Bar does not serve burgers.

Niko Rubio
Niko Rubio
Acclaimed Mexican/Salvadoran-American singer-songwriter Niko Rubio’s latest single “kitty” came out in August, via Atlantic Records. The single comes after September’s breakout single “tokyo”, which marks Rubio’s biggest streaming debut to date (with over 2.6M streams in less than three weeks) and a Mazzy Star cover of “Fade Into You” (live from Honeysuckle Records).
Niko Rubio talking about the single:
‘kitty’ was the first song I wrote for my upcoming project. It was the first song I knew had to be mine. I didn’t show anyone; I kept it close to my heart and thought it was so weird. I was really afraid of what people would say about it because it was so different to what I had been putting out. Ultimately, the bass/trip-hop drum sound became a signature for this next record, and I ended up diving headfirst into this world. I’m very grateful for this song and for Austin, Wyatt, and Zacari, who produced it and wrote it with me—allowing me to explore the weirdest of places. It became the foundation of all that came after.

It’s about a boy who—once again—I shouldn’t have been f**king with anymore. It’s me getting super raw about feeling broken from the men I’ve loved and being okay with that. It’s my internal dialogue: ‘F**k, I need to stop doing this’. It’s a heartache song with an admission of guilt.

Rubio was last seen in Minneapolis in November 2025 with Two Lips.

Lioness Season 3
Lioness
You ever watched the macho show Yellowstone and wondered what it would be like with just women? Well Taylor Sheridan has got you covered with Lioness. The show started in 2023 and it’s currently running Season 3 on Paramount+.
So, what is a Lioness? It’s a CIA program that trains women to observe and get close to a subject, due to parts of the world that men aren’t allowed in. The first season really focus on just two Lioness – the head lady played by Zoe Saldaña (she plays Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy). They recruited a new Lioness and the first season is how they trained a marine named Cruz.
In Season 2, they recruited a new Lioness. I thought each season would introduce a new woman and a new mission… but halfway into Season 2, we see the return of Cruz.
The current season, it’s very confusing how it’s told, because of the various time lines. It’s not always clear what time the story is told, I wish there was subtle hints, like maybe play with color tint (like Westworld). But I think I get it, Zoe is kidnapped and the team is doing everything to find her. I wish it was told in a linear story.
When it works, the show is really pumping and hits hard. The show ain’t takin’ a sh** from anyone and it’s riveting. The show drags whenever you get to the personal stuff, like the family-thing. The teenager getting into a car accident. The husband/doctor. Who cares! I hate her daughters, I hate all the family stuff.
What I like are the supporting characters – that macho band of military guys. All the military/action stuff. All the spy stuff, that’s all cool. I wish the show was just focused on the mission.
There’s a lot going on in the third season… and I hope the Russian (I guess she’s Ukrainian), I hope she joins the team as a Lioness. So far, we have the head Lioness, a pilot, and a marine. All the rest of the crew are men (and one woman who is so tough that they just considered her one of the guys). The crew is more of a comedy relief.

Cat ONN 75 inch
Mew + Tux
Just a small update on Tux, the tiny kitten that Mew-Mew brought home one day at the end of August. It was just weird; the tuxedo cat just basically followed my cat as she slowly directed him to our house. That’s pretty much why I’m raising two cats now.
Tux got really sick (nose/snot and breathing), so we’ve been giving him Cat Antibiotic and he seems to be on the up-and-up, and seemed to be more active now. Here’s a (bad) photo of him eating. As you can see, Tux eats a LOT and FAST. Notice how much larger Mew-Mew is … and she’s only about six months older!
I’ll take some more photos of Tux once he’s fully recovered. I love that these two cats get along… Except when Tux would finish his portion and tries to steal some of Mew’s food!
Here’s a glamor shot of Mew staking her claim on the cardboard box of an ONN 75-inch television. Apparently, right before Labor Day, Walmart delivered the television to our house. It’s not ours, we already have a Vizio 65-inch Smart TV and pretty happy with it. There’s no address on the TV, but after some sleuthing, I figured it out. It belongs to my neighbor – two houses over. So I walked over and rang the ring door bell and left a message, “Hey, I think they delivered your TV to my house.”
The weather started to rain, so I moved the TV to the garage and that same day, around 6pm, I got a knocked at the door and it was the owner of the TV. It was too big for her car, so I thought we could dolly it, but it was just easier to walk it over to her house. Even though it’s a big TV, it’s actually pretty light.

The Harms
Briefly
● Austin’s The Harms announced their single “Lion Tamer”, taken from their album Walking The Beast (available September 18). On the new single, “Lion Tamer,” singer, songwriter and guitarist Chase Frank points out, “Women are engaged in a constant battle of wills. We are often asked to become what circumstances demand, continually negotiating the boundaries between inner power and influences others have. Are we taming our internal lions or are we becoming lion tamers?”
● France’s The Fat Badgers’ frontman Cyprien Steck has a solo project called Leopard DaVinci. His latest 7” release Casual Conversation / Flaws, from Spain’s The Sleepers RecordZ, came out earlier this year and sold out – thanks to it being limited to 100 copies (available in pink or black vinyl). Each song features a different singer, “Casual Conversations” features Los Angeles’ funk sound of Moniquea and “Flaws” features smooth and soulful style of Helena.
● French-British singer-songwriter Blumi released the single “Jaguar” on Capitane Records. The song was recorded at La Frette Studios with mixed by Ali Chant and mastered by Emilie Daelemans. Look for the debut album early in 2027.
