The Warlocks

Los Angeles’ The Warlocks (not to be confused with Grateful Dead’s original name) is headlining the 7th Street Entry tonight, Saturday, June 18th.

Los Angeles’ The Warlocks headlined the 7th Street Entry on Saturday, June 18th, in support of their 9th studio album The Chain (Cleopatra).

Opening the show was Detroit’s Sisters of Your Sunshine Vapor, playing psych music with a video projection over the band to create an interesting visual effect.

Originally, the band was known as SikSik Nation and played blues-rock, but when changed their music style to garage/psych, they decided it was time to change their name.

Sisters of Your Sunshine Vapor’s latest album Good Goddamn is out now.

Minneapolis’ Magic Castles was next. From the banter on stage, it seems like the band joined The Warlocks’ tour for a few dates and finally ended their tour with their homecoming show at the 7th Street Entry.

As you know, we’ve previously mentioned that the local psychedelic band (singer/guitarist Jason Edmonds, singer/guitarist Jeremiah Doering, bassist Paul Fuglestad, drummer Brendan McInerney) used to have a dedicated flutist in the band when we first saw them in
May 2016.

The Warlocks closed out the night. The psychedelic band is led by singer/guitarist Bobby Hecksher. The current band features guitarist John Christian Rees, guitarist Earl V. Miller, bassist Christopher DiPino, and drummer Jason Anchondo.

The name (The Warlocks) was briefly used by both the Velvet Underground and the Grateful Dead, so there is a lot of history of the name and its origin. After the Warlocks’ first show in 1998, they got a lot of comparisons with Velvet Underground and Spacemen 3… and they went on to sign with Bomp! in October 2000.

The group found themselves moving from labels to labels, from Birdman Records, to Mute, to Tee Pee, to Zap Banana/Cargo. Currently, the band is stable on Cleopatra, having released their last three LPs on the record label.

The Warlocks’ The Chain is available now on Cleopatra Records.
