Local group Pert Near Sandstone is bringing their “Winter String Band Gathering” shows on February 23 and 24, 2024, at the Turf Club, in St Paul.
The Friday show will feature openers Sicard Hollow and Said In Stone, while Saturday’s show will feature Dead Horses and Danny Frank & The Smoky Gold.

We saw Pert Near Sandstone in December 2023 and wrote, “The members of Pert Near Sandstone are also from the Twin Cities suburbs, Brooklyn Park and Maple Grove. They first got into music by playing in heavy metal and ska bands. But as their music lessons progressed they too were caught by infectious music of bluegrass. And for almost twenty years they have been playing music that is impossible not to dance to, mainly because their percussionist, Andy Lambert, wears a pair of clogs. He was joined on stage with Nate Sipe on fiddle and mandolin, Kevin Knibel on banjo, J Lenz on guitar, Chris Forsberg on fiddle and Justin Bruhn on bass.”

We saw Cold War Kids in July 2023 and wrote, “Long Beach five-piece Cold War Kids opened the show, with a rain-shortened set, cutting three songs, but still made the most of their forty minutes by playing their handful of alternate radio hits, and even working in a brand-new song, pleasing existing fans while gaining new ones, and even were able to use some stage lights and the screen, normally reserved only for headliners.”
