February already! This year, it’s starting with spring-like temps, and as usual, the Chiefs prepping to play in the Super Bowl!

And, as if on cue, more shows are hitting the metro including the ten-thousand fist-sized rock muscle of Disturbed and expect a lot of walk-up sales for the big Mike Epps comedy show at T-Mobile.

For hair metal fans, nothing brings the entertainment like Hairball, everyone should see EitS live at least once, and you’ve never heard hip-hop classical like Black Violin…. Onward!

Let’s take look at the Kansas City / Lawrence KS metro musical happenings for the upcoming week, from February 1st- 7th.

THURSDAY FEBRUARY 1

FRIDAY FEBRUARY 2

Disturbed, Feb 2, T-Mobile Center, $24.50-$124.50

The multi-platinum Chicago band is out on their 23-date Take Back Your Life North American Tour which kicked off in Illinois just over a week ago, has support from Falling In Reverse & Plush and is produced by Live Nation.

Feb 2 DisturbedTheir 2023 summer tour was their most successful tour to date – according to a report by Billboard, last year’s summer tour raked in $17.4 million across 336,000 tickets and most recent album was Nov. 2022’s Divisive.

Hairball, Feb 2, Ameristar Casino, $20-$35

Few do the hair band/heavy metal tribute better than this longtime act, now in its 23rd year of bringing blasts from the past. With their beginnings being first in the Minneapolis area, we’ve seen them over the years and their costumes/routines, and setlist of familiar jukebox songs, are all top-notch to make for a fun and very entertaining concert experience. Mike Epps w Deray Davis, DC Young Fly, Chico Bean, Lil Duval and Mojo Brookzz (comedy) Feb 3, T-Mobile Center, $69.50-$159.50

Feb 3 EppsHosted By Mike Epps, featuring Deray Davis, DC Young Fly, Karlous Miller, Lil Duval, Mojo Brookzz, and Money Bag Mafi, fasten your seat belts, comedy enthusiasts, because 2024 is about to get uproarious. The “We Them One’s Comedy Tour” comprises a lineup of comedic maestros, promising side-splitting humor and unforgettable moments.

The Westerlies, Feb 3, Lied Center-Lawrence, $14-$25

It's the KU School of Music’s Prairie Winds Festival featuring this jazz/folk/chamber genre-defying brass quartet Feb 3 Westerlies with wind ensembles. The New York-based brass quartet was founded in 2011 by childhood friends from Seattle and includes Riley Mulherkar and Chloe Rowlands on trumpet, and Andy Clausen and Addison Maye-Saxon on trombone.

The Westerlies will perform with multiple ensembles, including the KU Wind Ensemble conducted by Paul W. Popiel.

SUNDAY FEBRUARY 4

Kathy Griffin (comedy), Feb 4, Uptown, $39-$79

Feb 4 Kathy GThe edgy two-time Emmy and Grammy Award winning comedian, television star, best-selling author and advocate who has written and starred in 20 televised stand-up specials, is back with a new tour.

The new outing is called “My Life on the PTSD List Tour” and she is a passionate advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community, women, other disenfranchised groups, and is a cancer survivor herself. 

 

MONDAY FEBRUARY 5

TUESDAY FEBRUARY 6

Explosions in the Sky, Feb 6, The Truman, $38.50-$69.50

Maybe the best instrumental rock band in the biz, “The End Tour” hits town in support of the band’s latest album, End, which arrived last September, their first full-length release in seven years. Feb 6 Explosions

According to the press release, the band’s plan to “curate local opening acts rather than selecting one established support band for the entire tour” is meant to “embody the album’s thematic embrace of the cycle of life.” For the KC show, they’ve tapped indie rock / shoe-gaze band Nightosphere.

In November, EitS also unveiled vinyl reissues in celebration of the 20th anniversaries of both 2001’s Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever and 2003’s The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place.

WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 7

Black Violin Experience, Feb 7, Kauffman Center, $44-$74

Nat Stokes on drums, DJ SPS on the turntable and Liston Gregory on keys – Mozart + Marvin Gaye + Kendrick Lamar is entirely possible to flow together.
