■ Lindsey Stirling
Lindsey Stirling is an American violinist, dancer, and composer who primarily performs solo. For her live tours, she relies on a core two-piece backing band consisting of Drew Steen (drums) and Ryan Riveros (keyboards/synthesizer). While she does not have a permanent, named backup band, her live setup frequently expands during major performances.

Superstar violinist, dancer, and choreographer, Lindsey Stirling, just headlined the St Augustine Amphitheatre, in the tourist town of St Augustine, Florida, as part of the brand-new “Duality Untamed” tour. The Amp is ranked #1 USA amphitheatre in Pollstar Magazine, based on ticket sold and booking.

Opening the show was Massachusetts’ PVRIS. The trio is led by frontwoman, producer Lynn Gunn, with bassist/keys Brian MacDonald, and touring drummer Denny Agosto.

We previously seen them as headliner in May 2016, and since then, we’ve seen them co-headline with Poppy (Sep 2023), and opened for Smashing Pumpkins (Aug 2024), and now Lindsey Stirling.

PVRIS

We described their most recent appearance: “Massachusetts-formed alt-rock band PVRIS, now re-framed as more of a solo project for the lone official member, Lynn Gunn (though longtime member bassist Brian MacDonald still tours with the live version). They’ve been a name for over a decade now, returning with last July’s critically praised release, “Evergreen” (via Hopeless Records) and Lynn still rages with an inner fire (and is a little profane) when performing live. The band actually hit the stage early, due to a last-minute call by the venue to begin the show early as weather reports indicated possible storms were headed east. After their impeccable timing with similar circumstances at the recent Melissa Etheridge/Jewel show here, we trust their decisions implicitly, but any unaware fans might have missed up to half of this opening set. The setlist was mostly culled from songs played last year on their co-headlining tour with Poppy (which we caught live In Minneapolis) with a few exceptions like 2017’s “What’s Wrong” and the admittedly hypnotically funky “Nightmare” from 2019. The set would end with the self-empowering anthem from the new record, “Goddess” to deserved applause and cheers.”

Before “Gimme a Minute” was played, singer and guitarist Gunn mentioned that this was their first time in St Augustine. She was excited to see her first alligator (not in the wild), so suggesting this was her first time in the general area. They ended their set with fan-favorite, “GODDESS.”

The first time I saw Lindsey Stirling, in 2015, I didn’t know what to expect. Her fans quickly educated me, as I chatted with them before the show. Everybody at the show was there to see her, because they felt a connection to her. And then when she started playing her “Nerd Medley”, featuring weekend gamer’s video game music of Skyrim and Dragon Age, I became an instant fan.

I described her show was a cross between Riverdance and Celtic Woman, and I still stand by that. It really doesn’t matter if you don’t like the music, you’re just going to be absolutely entertained. I love that for every song, there are costume changes, either on Stirling or her four dancers. For more complicated costumes, sometimes Stirling would talk about people who inspired her or the two guardian angels that she lost… or we would have Stirling playing violin solo, with her backup band (Drew Steen on percussion and Ryan Riveros on keys & guitars). Riveros does sometimes step into the spotlight to have a “duel” as guitarist vs Stirling on violin. It is so fun, and everything is well-choreographed.

The last time, in 2024, I noticed that Stirling added more aerial silk and hoops into her act. This is visually so cool. For example, one song had two dancers doing choreographed dance and movement, balancing on one hoop in the air. It looks so effortless, so easy… but I know it is anything but.

Maybe it’s my poor memory, but there seems to be a lot of new production in this latest 2026 tour. For example, the show started with Stirling with her armor and her violin (as a bow) playing “Artemis”. This is taken in reference to her comic book series Artemis. She’s fighting these dark hooded figures, visually looking so cool. She’s running, she’s playing her violin to combat evil. It all tells some story… and it inspired the listener to find out more by reading her comic book. Even for songs that I’ve already seen before, such as that “Butterfly” song. It’s different on this tour; they took it a step further and flew her to the top with a giant dress that display the other dancers’ silhouettes. Like that butterfly, it seems like the performance for this song is ever-changing.

It’s so easy to see why Stirling have sold million of copies of her albums or selling out her shows. Her music and live show appeal to everybody. From dancing fans to video gamers to Harry Potter fans to chamber nerds to outcasts… to even normies.

So now you know why I drove 1.5 hours through thunderstorms and long highways to see Stirling. I normally wouldn’t do this for other artists.
